nope not any different at all.
Butthurts. Seriously, I know a buttload of Muslims, none of them can find even one bad thing about this measure. This guy right here is a butthurt.
You should start giving a shit about the opinion of the concerned people instead of trying to decide for them. French Muslims don't think any different from Conspiracy.
I support the funding of additional mosque capacity. I don't support the laws which target religious activities, when laws should already exist that disallow traffic disruption. Ah, so French Muslims are all the same, thank you, Dr. Expert On French Muslims. I mean, obviously not, otherwise there wouldn't be any 'butthurt' Muslims about.
Yeah. Being born and raised here was just so terrible, my gay friends who live life here perfectly fine and have never been confronted about their sexuality thank you SO much for speaking on their behalf. Google what you will, the laws stand because Qatar was once influenced by Saudi Arabias interpretation of Sharia (Wahabbism) and since you're such an avid researcher I don't have to tell you we've moved pretty far away from the ideology and do not practice them. I truly don't see what you have against this. If there weren't enough room for worshippers in a place designated for said worship, and they were forced to fill up roads where people who do not practice said religion cannot drive across because on the road stands dozens of people who are in a deep state of worship - one that will mean ignoring anyone who asks them to move until they are done. Solution: build more places of preferred worship while giving them unused buildings that can be converted into prayer rooms in the meantime so that both benefit.
Apparently they believe not being either French or Muslim give them the right of telling Muslims and French people what they should think of the situation.
Butthurts. Seriously, I know a buttload of Muslims, none of them can find even one bad thing about this measure. This guy right here is a butthurt.
That is not an argument!?!?!? [editline]18th September 2011[/editline] :psyboom:
I mean, obviously not, otherwise there wouldn't be any 'butthurt' Muslims about.
In the US, one guy decided to burn a Quran to bring some attention. Is he representative of the whole Christianity ? No. In France, on guy decided to go against this law because he feels profoundly insulted the Government gives him a place to pray in. Is he representative of the whole Islam ?
Your penal code says sodomy is punishable by up to 5 years in prison. In 1995 an American was arrested and tortured for "homosexual activity". In the 1990s, the Philippines had to advise gay migrant workers not to go to Qatar based on previous mass arrests and deportations. There is absolutely no recognition of same-sex relationships in Qatar at all. Source It isn't a cultural thing. It is state-sponsored discrimination, imprisonment, and torture of gay people. Qatar is hardly progressive in this regard.
Great, another person who prefers a secondary source over a primary one. Please, inform me how 'same sex relationships' are investigated? Do they install security cameras in peoples homes waiting for a guy and a guy to get it on and call the SWAT team to bust through a window? Anyone who gets arrested over any sort of 'sexual' purpose was probably doing it in a place where they could see it: somewhere public. In this respect, a married straight couple would ALSO be persecuted under law.
Well maybe they should start being a bit more discrete and avoid hugging/kissing in the street, especially if culturally it's an issue.
Lankist! Lankist, where are you when we REALLY need you?
Butthurts. Seriously, I know a buttload of Muslims, none of them can find even one bad thing about this measure. This guy right here is a butthurt.
Anecdotal evidence. "Everyone who disagrees with me is butthurt!" Fantastic argument you have there. Can you explain WHY they're butthurt? [editline]17th September 2011[/editline]
In the US, one guy decided to burn a Quran to bring some attention. Is he representative of the whole Christianity ? Is he representative of the whole Islam ?
He's an imam, so he's of SOME stature in the Islamic faith, no? And he was complaining that the government isn't working very hard to provide for the Muslim people, which is a perfectly valid argument.

Imams are as important as Priests. Oh, wait, the guy who tried the burn a Quran WAS a priest !
Great, another person who prefers a secondary source over a primary one.
Are you saying you're a primary source? Because you're not. Hell, thanks to the wonders of proxies, you are not even necessarily Qatari.
Any kind of source is better than your anecdotal speculation of 'probably'.
The fact that he kinda LIVES here is a good enough source for me. If you really want a source : Qatar constitution, article 36.
"…No one shall be subjected to torture or degrading treatment. Torture shall be considered a crime publishable by law"
The article 35 also bans discrimination "on grounds of sex, race, language, or religion".
Imams are as important as Priests. Oh, wait, the guy who tried the burn a Quran WAS a priest !
Except he already established himself as crazy for trying to burn the Quran, the imam here isn't doing anything radical.
The fact that he kinda LIVES here is a good enough source for me.
I live in Australia and we all hang from trees, drink beer and ride kangaroos. Good enough for you?
Any kind of source is better than your anecdotal speculation of 'probably'.
Then please, explain how my gay friends have lived here just as anyone else never once having to face anything like that?
The fact that he kinda LIVES here is a good enough source for me. If you really want a source : From the Qatar constitution.
The US is the greatest country in the world. Source: me, I live here so I would know. [editline]17th September 2011[/editline]
Then please, explain how my gay friends have lived here just as anyone else never once having to face anything like that?
Have they been caught by the police?
Are you saying you're a primary source? Because you're not. Hell, thanks to the wonders of proxies, you are not even necessarily Qatari.
I think being born and raised here counts for something, btu you go ahead and believe what you wish.
The article 35 also bans discrimination "on grounds of sex, race, language, or religion".
Notice it doesn't mention sexual orientation?

Trust me, I live there.
No apparently knowing how things go practically is worthless compared to know what things are going legally based on two cases who happened 20 years ago.
The US is the greatest country in the world. Source: me, I live here so I would know. [editline]17th September 2011[/editline] Have they been caught by the police?
How WOULD they be caught by the police? In what scenario? As for the 'torture' the lashings thing has been completely abolished now because Qatars moving away from Wahhabism since its dumb. Certain public displays of affection are deemed disrespectful, as a cultural custom. Between two men, two women, a man and a woman; all three would be warned by the police. It's just making out, you cant find somewhere that isn't in the middle of an open crowd?
Can you please stop being worthless shitty trolls and actually have an opinion, it's starting to be boring to see you trying to have a better guess than people who live in the concerned country or are part of the concerned religion.

Fuck, you should be a comedian.

If it's only culturally frowned upon that's just whatever I guess, but if the police will stop you/arrest you for it that's not acceptable. And what if your friends kissed in public while a policeman was nearby who saw them? Would they be arrested?

If you are a foreigner, you'll be approached by a policeman and asked to stop on the grounds that people would be offended by it. He wouldn't slap cuffs on you. As for the local gay people, they usually aren't bothered about it since they are technically part of the culture they don't see a problem with keeping their PDA low. You're talking like being gay is a bigger factor here than it really is.

Foreigners come to my country of residence and want to keep their values, I wanna keep some of mine when I go over there.
You still have a right to do so even if it offends people though, that's their problem.
It's not that two men are kissing - if I were to take a girl and make out with her in public the same exact thing will apply. It's just a little custom, no one gets leverage here - enjoying each others company like that should be kept away in a private space. That's just how it's perceived there, surely you can't call a culture ignorant for having different values of what is appropriate and what is not?
