cool, let's be children about this
You seemed to fine doing that a minute ago. Stop being a cariciture of everything wrong with being liberal. You're seeing problems where there are none, bringing them up - failing to see that other viewpoints exist, and offering neither solutions nor evidence that there was a problem to begin with.
It's a problem where the only villain is the circumstance. The circumstances have now been altered to better ones.
nope i'm pretty sure that spot belongs to the "far right protests" mentioned several times by the article that were the pressure for the ban
Attacking Muslims? No they are not. They banned this for the protection of Muslims. Westerners tend to lash out against Muslims due to the actions of extremists. So, again, have you read the thread?
Isn't it a bit like telling women to never leave the home in order to protect them from being raped? Or forcing them to cover up to protect them from the gaze of men? (oh wait which side am I on again :v:)
I always assumed we were one species but with different races that give people living in different regions a unique appearance. And that kind of "categorization" usually only becomes a problem when stereotypes cloud people's judgment. It's a phenomenon tho how religious stereotypes ended up being used in the racism debates. Silly Hitler.
Well these are not races then, these are types or ethnicities, not "races" (the term of race means bigger changes than just skin color and facial assets, it includes drastic physical changes, different mentality bound to the race, etc)

(oh wait which side am I on again :v:)
Catch 22 I suppose. Gotta pick the lesser of two evils, that kinda thing.
nope i'm pretty sure that spot belongs to the "far right protests" mentioned several times by the article that were the pressure for the ban
Right, so there is a villain. But that spot is, as you have just pointed out, not reserved for the French government. It's for their own protection. How is this oppression? That's like saying someone who wants you to go inside because it's raining is oppressing you. Except the rain is swapped with people who want to lynch you.
State sponsored discrimination against Muslims in France? Well call me a monkey's uncle
State sponsored discrimination against Muslims in France? Well call me a monkey's uncle
Right. Hop aboard the bandwagon, then. I'm sure the muslims will be very glad when people start assaulting them for practicing their beliefs.
Also, the national front didn't push for this measure to be taken, they pushed for it to be much harsher, which didn't happen. The decision was made with the help and endorsement of various Muslims and is perfectly fair. If Christians didn't have enough room for their sunday prayer, the government would build them bigger churches. Same for Jews. [editline]16th September 2011[/editline] Seriously if you don't know jack shit about how the French government is working you'd better not start on calling it racist and oppressing.

They've banned praying on the street so they won't be assaulted in their mosques, which are now receiving substantial upgrades in terms of capacity.
Why should someones religion halt the process of people in general? France got a lot of mosques take a pick instead of trying to prove something in the streets.
I'm sure the muslims would rather pray in a mosque than on the street, this compromise is good and the far right would absolutely be against it.
Mosques are full, no more room for proper prayer, so they're building new ones. It's not hard to understand and, if anything, it's a service given to the Muslim community.
Why should someones religion halt the process of people in general? If they were trying to say something, or "attack" someone, they'd have done it by NOT ACTIVELY HELPING THEM.
Right. Hop aboard the bandwagon, then. I'm sure the muslims will be very glad when people start assaulting them for practicing their beliefs.
Let's ban women from going outside so they don't get raped it's for their own protection herpity durpity
Why would they have to ban praying on the streets if the mosques had sufficient capacity?
I'm sure the muslims would rather pray in a mosque than on the street, this compromise is good and the far right would absolutely be against it.
The National Front (Front National in French) is indeed against it. They want harsher measures.
If new mosques are being built to replace the clearing of prayer on the streets I don't see the problem.
Why would they have to ban praying on the streets if the mosques had sufficient capacity?
They didn't. That's why they're building new ones.
Why would they have to ban praying on the streets if the mosques had sufficient capacity?
There are certain times of the day where Muslims need to stop everything and pray regardless of where they are
Why should someones religion halt the process of people in general? France got a lot of mosques take a pick instead of trying to prove something in the streets.
It's not like this is expressed as a 'fuck you' to the French people. Friday noon prayers have to be attended by all Muslims and if you've got a large Muslim population and not enough mosques, they're going to gather in public places if left with no other choice.
Let's ban women from going outside so they don't get raped it's for their own protection herpity durpity
No, that's not it at all. For instance, women don't clog up large areas of towns. Stop trying to compare the two.
There are certain times of the day where Muslims need to stop everything and pray regardless of where they are
I already explained why this statement is exaggerated, first page.
There are certain times of the day where Muslims need to stop everything and pray regardless of where they are
Read the thread for fucks sake.
Let's ban women from going outside so they don't get raped it's for their own protection herpity durpity
Because praying in the middle of the street, sometimes directly ON THE ROAD, is totally safe. Praying on the street is dirty, inconvenient and uncomfortable. Once again, the French Government is giving them a place where their religion say they should actually pray.
Let's ban women from going outside so they don't get raped it's for their own protection herpity durpity
Read the thread. Please. Like all of the pages.
There are certain times of the day where Muslims need to stop everything and pray regardless of where they are
Yeah, praying to some flying spaghetti monster is very important.
There are certain times of the day where Muslims need to stop everything and pray regardless of where they are
So they go somewhere where they aren't vulnerable. If we're making the "ban women from going outside" argument, that would be equivalent to walking around naked.
All of which have been built by the government. If they were trying to say something, or "attack" someone, they'd have done it by NOT ACTIVELY HELPING THEM.
But the french got more mosques then almost all western countries, why are people still in the street making it a hazel for other people.
By the way everyone here's a picture of something that isn't banned in France: I think outdoor Christian gatherings should be outlawed as well, if this is the way we're going to approach the situation.
