I personally think that I've wasted cash buying Valve games.
Why? Because of the feeling of being unfinished and unpolished. Left 4 Dead was disappointing. Team Fortress 2 was just completely trashed from the original game I bought. I was left hanging in the episodic series.
Whatever happened to publishers and developers that work towards a finished product? Really, if they focused their efforts on a single game and then supported the community by getting feedback and reports would they really see their product model shine. I have to look elsewhere now, hate to say it, EA has been looking really good to me lately; despite the fact they don't even update their games.
Aww man no new episode video games what ever shall I do? :saddowns:
whatever as long as everything stays the same quality as Half Life 2 or portal 2
Yeah, pretty much. They'll be an out and out "continuous content and platform provider" within five years, ie, publisher, ie pretty much the same as any other giant ass publisher, with the exception that they're private, and their digital subscriber service is already launched and mainstream. Welp, it was fun while it lasted, and they did make some great games back in the day. Hopefully someone else will take up the indie banner and do things their own way successfully, and we can get another cycle of badass games that have a small yet dedicated and strong (and most importantly, creative) community.
This is taking it too far.
This is taking it too far.
Not really. Valve is a shadow of the awesome little studio they used to be, and now they're just in it to milk the fanbase for money.

How so?
How so?
hats
You guys honestly wanna know what i think?
I dont give a shit, as long as the game is good, and fun, and the story is good, im fine with whatever they do. Based on what i've seen in Portal 2, i think that the next games will be good too, like most of their games.
hats
Are they forcing you to buy them?
Can you not find them ingame via random drops?
Jesus christ that shits pisses me off.
This officially knocks Valve off the top of my list of favorite developers. They're going to permanently can thought-out, well-developed games in favor of bullshit like TF2 and L4D that they can recycle year after year and get people to pay for over and over again. Say goodbye to plot and characters, get used to buying hats and map packs. They are now as bad as EA Sports.
[editline]9th May 2011[/editline]
Hahaha, right. Like updates and DLC are going to be free.
The reality is you pay a full price for a neutered game, then get to pay over and over again for the rest of the content that should have been there in the first place.
Beyond buying the orange box, I have not spent a single dollar on TF2. I don't know why you're bitching.
If you think Valve is milking you for your money with TF2 then it is your own hands on your udders
here we come, hat simulator in every new valve game
They state they're changing development methods and the entirety of facepunch shits itself, honestly.
You think they don't realize part of the source of Half Life's success was being a singleplayer game and that it has in no way the same amount of replayability as Team Fortress or Portal? They're professionals in the industry of course they fucking know have a little bit of hope.
If they make a whole new Half-life 3 along with a new or greatly improved Source engine, then so be it. That'd be great news to me at least.
But in games such as the Team Fortress franchise, where the content comes through updates, I hope they never abandon the business strategy where they sell the hats/weaponry in the MannCo online store while also allowing players to get them for free with some effort and luck.
Productivity and generosity put together, fucking smart.
I hope Half Life 3 has hats.
I hope Half Life 3 has hats.
Of course it will, many of the characters had hat in Half-life games too.. Like.. the combine they had helmets. But the zombies! They had the headhat, I mean headcrab. That's a hat right?

Preorder for beanie
After five years in development, hopefully it will have been worth the weight.
Fixed
Its less of "no episode 3" and more of "This development cycle failed, and we're trying a new approach." This most likely means they will make episode 3 longer and more entertaining.
Valve kinda missed the whole point of episodic games. Some companies have gone out of business releasing episodic games as slow as valve.
Well isn't that dandy
Still, as long as I get an ounce of Half life related closure I'll be happy
I just need to see how many of my predictions are true or false :frown:

Nice histrionic overreaction, but no one's shitting themselves. Valve is changing to an absolute mass market-mass consumption company. This is nothing hidden, it's right out in the open. I'm not going to start boycotting Valve or anything like it. I'm simply going to acknowledge they are becoming a giant fat ass corporation with a fuckton of employees and a need to make products based on general market trends, just like every other big ass publisher in existence.
Am I the only one that thinks we will hear about ep 3 this E3?

they only have like 300 employees
i've seen more monolithic and imposing acting troupes
I don't want to hear any news from Valve again until it's one of two things:
Release date for Episode 3
Release date for Counter-Strike 2
[sp]Gordon dies[/sp]
By now its pretty obvious that they were going to drop the episodic thing and just release episode 3 as half life 3.

You say that as if valve charges for their FREE CONTENT.
They said the TF2 model, not the Activision model.
so hats?
valve cant stick with anything...
Pretty much what i was thinking and saying at the beginning though, there will be no episode 3 and they will make HL3 instead which will definately be a suitable answer to the development time.
I really don't want valve to make more games like team fortress 2. Tho it will be interesting to see what they do.
