I actually own and have played this game a bit. I liked it quite a lot at first, despite being an early access game (I'm a sucker for paying in to betas, so you guys complaining about that can blame me for being a part of the problem), since it played like The Binding of Isaac in the first person, which I thought was a perfect match. Then I went and had a look around on the dev's twitter and other media outlets he's using a month or so after getting the game. He's been a bit of a scumbag for awhile now. He seemed pretty abrasive and being like "hey, it's all about me, the fans can suck it," so it doesn't surprise me these events have occured. I hate that sort of attitude, especially with an early access game, you should be treating people who bought your game with the utmost respect, since they're confident enough you'll deliver something good that they bought your game before it was even finished. Wish a better game with the same premise came along. It's a salvageable one. This game itself isn't even that bad to play, it's just unfinished and now he's backing out of one of the features he even said like a month ago they were close to done with. Doesn't give me high hopes if that's the attitude he's gonna keep, especially after one of my friends was kind enough to purchase the game for me. Money's been paid to him with the intent for him to deliver, and now he's backing down.
https://twitter.com/Vallisca3x3x3/statuses/464007476870778880
@RingJ5 the universe has a way of not tolerating fuckheads.. maybe he will pinch his penis off because he forgot to cut his finger nails
Yep, he's a cunt
tons of people absolutely adore Killing Floor including me, ratings mean nothing these days. Also there's let's plays and streams which can help a lot.
Anything with a ridiculously low score - < 50 or so - is probably pretty accurate, but metascore above that point of 'digital shit with a price tag' is unreliable. I've played games with 80+ that I didn't like and thought weren't great, but others with around 70 that I really enjoyed. A lot of game reviewers that contribute to metascores have very specific tastes and can't step away from them to see the actual quality of a game.
Out of curiosity, do the developers in the early access on steam and Kickstarter get most of the money (once you take away Kickstarters/Steams cut) in one hit or constant hits?
beam NG and overgrowth are great but even then early access so terrible that they are the reason I'll never get any early access its a waste of money. Especially since you're taking a gamble. Will the game be good? will it be shit? or will the main developer be hit by a train and die and the game is cancelled? To hell with that.
You should know that its ♥♥♥♥ like this, your over abundance of obvious ignorance to what kind of dedication it takes to make a game of any sort, that makes you seem like a troll.
Indie Developers, folks! I'd understand if you were getting death threats, having people constantly attack you over nothing, or actually get physically attacked in realife... This though? Fuck that. All I see is this little, "Indie developers are special snowflakes, so don't criticize our ARTE" which makes people hate indie developers more, and gets people to make generalizations of all of them outside the few cocky bastards hiding in the thin veil of "my game is the Mona Lisa of vidya games! <3"
I don't play this terribly often, but I thought something was up in that it hadn't been updated in a long time. Not everybody can be like Chucklefish is with regards to Starbound. At least they kind of admitted the game wasn't in the best of states to be released, but they kind of had to put something playable out. As well as admitting its a bit harder for them than they first thought. In fact at least in terms of the people behind it I dare say Starbound is one of the good ones with regards to Early Access.
It's the steam forum auto filter
Of this, I did not know.
I agree with much of what's been said here. The problem isn't with the concept of early-access itself, but by the underhanded way many utilize it and the masses that fall for it. Games like KSP, Prison Architect and others work because there is a method to the madness. The developers clearly explain what they have accomplished thus far and present a clear outline in the direction they intend to go. That's really the point of early-access. You present your concept and designs and sell the public on investing into your product. Character plays a large role in this, presenting yourself as an honest developer that intends to follow through on their promises and providing clearcut dates for when you intend to provide these promises is a boon. On the inverse, you have games like Paranautical Activity, where unsavory developers offer the world and people throw money at a plan that isn't likely to come to pass. Saying "We're going to add co-op one day in the future" shouldn't be enough.
Bought this game some time ago, and I wasn't impressed. For something that seeks to be a " Doom style Binding of Isaac ", it sure lacks both the replayability and style, and it certainly doesn't play like Doom.
The elephant in the room is Star Citizen, a game which grows more and more absurdly grandiose with every stretch goal that is already several months behind schedule.
If Star Citizen turns out poorly I really think that will be it for kickstarting games.
If Star Citizen turns out poorly I really think that will be it for kickstarting games.
On the plus side, that leaves a good 20 year window to kickstart a game and get rich.
Ugh I got this specifically because they said they would be adding coop. Fucking hell.
then dont buy until the feature is in
http://store.steampowered.com/app/233450/ Here's a good example of an early access game that's good and is constantly being worked on the developers who actually talk to the community and listen to them. Have some more: Papers, Please, The Stanley Parable, Postal 2 and Black Mesa There's a few more good titles on Greenlight. The problem is that that's only going to be about 10 good titles worth my time out of a grand total of 781 titles that have been Greenlit. Half of these things are clones of existing games, or they take a lot of ideas/styles from existing games. It's either minecraftclone with guns/nazis/slavedriving/trains/curved landscapes/hippopotamuses/in space/zombies. Most of this stuff is pure schlock
Sir You Are Being Hunted just got finished from it's early access stage and the devs are still updating it.

I feel it's much more effective to be curt and dismissive with people who are "trolling" if you should respond to them at all. For the vast majority of his customers (who he won't hear from because they are happy with the product) he should understand that they were expecting a feature, and should be apologetic in telling them it's not happening. This is honestly the most disrespectful series of tweets from someone who is trying to sell something I have ever seen, and I hope his game is removed from steam because of his conduct. at this point, if I were a customer, I wouldn't even be that upset about the lack of multiplayer so much as seeing what kind of douche I just gave money to. I can't get over the irony that he said someone was acting like a 10 year old AFTER he said "IRL Chances are I would hurt most of these morons"
Sir You Are Being Hunted just got finished from it's early access stage and the devs are still updating it.
I got unepic on early access and I thoroughly enjoyed it, and they have been pretty quick about fixing bugs and updating features. Although, it was pretty much a finished game when it got on steam.
Wow, what an absolute cunt. Hope he looks forward to EVERYONE demanding refunds from him.
Between early access alphas and AAA games that are released only being 70% done (see Battlefield 4), it feels like gaming is going in a shit direction.
It's a bait and switch and buyers should be offered a refund. Period. If you sell an unfinished product with a list of features to be added later, you have to add those features. Otherwise, you purposely mislead your customers by making your product sound better than it really is. That's not even considering the fact that he is acting like a smug, condescending jackass towards angry customers.

The issue is that there is no security for those involved, which is really the one thing that needs to be fixed. They need to be garunteed a refund at any point up to like a few days after the game is officially declared "Finished".

It probably has something to do with the deal they make with developers/publishers on the profit they get - as I recall they get something like 50% of sales or some other impressively high number.

The only numbers I've ever seen have been like 15-20%. Occasionally as high as 25%, but usually its between 15% and 20%.
Phil Fish would be proud.
I bet this is going to become more and more common with Valves bizarre plans.
Game is boring as hell, anyway.
I'm wondering how such a douche becomes a game designer in the first place I seriously doubt he even works on anything seeing how almost every hour he has another smart ass post on twitter

I read somewhere - probably somewhere here on FP - that Valve got like half the profit. Well whoopsy, that's a fair bit less significant. 15-20% is still a pretty good gain on a lot of games.
i got mercenary kings on early access and liked it and it was actually released with double the content of the early access
