Satanists Want Own Statue Outside of Oklahoma Capitol Building
I still don't get how this is reasonable. The Ten Commandments aren't just Christians trying to exclude people. Jewish people and Muslims also have it included in their religion. Also it is an example of an early law system creating an effect similar to that as putting a piece of the Code of Hammurabi or ancient Roman law there. This monument is purely being created out of spite from a religion fueling hate. Would be building a swastika there be just as acceptable? There are a lot of neo-Nazis out there who consider it to be part of their religious views.
Building a swastika under the current circumstances would also be acceptable I believe.
Anyway, the Decalogue is hardly inclusive and to say so shows a lack of understanding of its content.

What cruelties have Satanists committed in history? That is the difference between them and Nazis.

The Ten Commandments aren't a random piece of ancient law, they're indissociable from religion (even some specific religions). That's why it has no place there.
Also I don't think that a monument engraved with the Code of Hammurabi or ancient Roman law would be accepted there either. Just imagine a huge stone slab outside of the capitol that reads:
If a man is taken prisoner in war, and there is a sustenance in his house, but his wife leave house and court, and go to another house: because this wife did not keep her court, and went to another house, she shall be judicially condemned and thrown into the water.
Do you think that would be acceptable?

I dunno guys, makes sense to me!

Neat.
Despite being a stereotypical bible belt redneck state, there are a surprising amount of satanists here in Oklahoma. They gather at my community center once in a while.

The drawn one reminded me of Sonic Sez for some reason.

Pretty sure it's supposed to be the Jesus thing.

Unless you were making a joke. Then I'm sorry for being dumb.
That statue looks more like Baphomet, the made up demon that the Teutonic order created to demonize the Baltic pagans.
made up demon
As opposed to what?
As opposed to what?
Made up as in it wasn't even in anyone's religion.
He killed Job's(i think that was his name) families and ruined his life because God told him to because God was trying to win some dumb bet with satan.
No seriously
It was something like Satan could do whatever he liked to Job's family and property, but not Job himself.
Then he gave Job hives and shit.
Satan's a fucking cheater.
[editline]10th January 2014[/editline]
Shit I'm wrong God just told him he couldn't kill Job, Satan isn't a cheater.
At least not here he isn't.

I know I'm like 4 weeks late here, but didn't Job get rewarded with tons of prosperity after the fact?
I guess with a name like Lucien Greaves you're either destined to become a satanist or a super villain.
I hope when Lucien Greaves retires he will be replaced by some guy with an even more ominous name like Victor Blackthorn
Why do Christians have the special right not to be pissed off? Maybe their monument pisses the satanists off too.
90% of satanists are atheists/agnostics that just want to piss off christians

the majority of the people I know who identify as satanist won't bring it up unless asked, but yeah it doesn't stop edgy highschoolers from being all "satan rules!" to piss off their parents

why did you think rudolph's nose glows a firey red

that makes sense, the first rule of LaVeyan Satanism is that you don't tell people your opinions or advice unless someone asks. so i guess good for them?

The statue is indeed Baphomet.
Satan isnt even a bad dude tbh, and if the stories are true and if he was the snake in Edab than he kind of gave us free will.
He rebel against god even though it was obvious he would lose, he was like Rocky except Apollo sent him to hell.
Satan was like that small dog that sees a rotweiller and starts barking like a tough guy, but he did it for our freedom, looking at it that way, Satan is actually pretty chill.
Satan was like that small dog that sees a rotweiller and starts barking like a tough guy, but he did it for our freedom, looking at it that way, Satan is actually pretty chill.
But TBH Satan's ulterior motive for giving us freedom was so that we would turn away from God and serve him instead.
Sure, he might seem like a cool guy, but he isn't called "Prince of Lies," for nothing.
Correction: We already had freedom. He convinced people to use freedom for bad reasons.
In the original story of Adam and Eve the snake was just a snake, not Satan. The snake did what it did because snakes were already established as tricksters in stories before that, and the snake being Satan in disguise actually introduced a plot hole (God punished the whole species by taking away their legs - so they would be forced to crawl on their stomachs and lie in the dirt forever - which wouldn't make much sense if the perp was actually something else only pretending to be one)
Satan being the source and promoter of all evil is a kind of religious "fanon" for the most part; Like the identities of the four horsemen or Dante's Inferno-style hell. In most stories involving the red guy he was more akin to a "bad cop" to God's "good cop."

I'm not sure who believes that, but it definitely isn't what Christianity teachers. Satan is simply the first source of evil, not the source of all evil. People are taught to be the source of their own evil.

Many Christians, including very prominent early theologians like Augustine of Hippo around 400 AD, believe the story of Adam and Eve to be an entirely symbolic story that represents the nature of all people. The name "Adam" actually just means "Man" and Eve wasn't called Eve until after being expelled from the garden. Before that she was just called "Woman."

On the statue: The constitution says nothing about the government being completely separate from religion. That idea comes from a single vague quote from Jefferson. It simply states that government can't make a law respecting religion or the exercise of religion.
The Decalogue is nightmarish in its own right once you understand then context behind it.
how? legitimately curious
how? legitimately curious
It depends on which version (there are several) but it implicitly condones sexism and slavery (listing woman and "servants" alongside chattel and property. It commands you to love god and, at the same time to fear him (due to the threat of damnation reaching down 4 generations of your descendants), a sadomasochistic relationship. It also contains an injunction on thoughtcrime. You will be condemned for even just coveting something. The moment the thought passes your mind you are condemned. You needent even take any action.
And almost immediately after one of the versions of the commandments, god informs us that "thou shalt not suffer a witch to live."
[editline]12th January 2014[/editline]
But I didn't even explain the context. It's all just a bunch of rules written on some rocks that an old man came out of the desert holding while he claimed that god spoke to him. If the story is even true (the Exodus has already been disproven and Mt. Sinai or and evidence of it has never been discovered) then it's nothing more than a complete wacko/snake-oil salesman who duped his entire tribe.
