Where can I access the information on the case?
I just googled Garry Newman vs Righthaven and it came up with some stuff
It's not their fault, why would you build something in the UK expecting sunlight?
As an architecture student, I'd just like to point out that with all of the systems and structures that you have to worry about, how the fuck could you predict something like this happening? :v:
Aluminum melts at 660C (and aluminum oxide at 2000C). No way it was getting that hot. Even accounting for it to only heat enough to soften sufficiently for it to collapse under its own weight, I'd expect it to need at least 300C to do that. Steel melts, depending on the exact alloy, above 1300C, so it's not likely to be steel either. In fact, the only metals that seem to work are tin (230C), lead (330C) or a magnesium alloy (350-650C). This has got to be some sort of plastic.
Chances are it didn't melt but the structure beneath it got hot enough to expand and buckle the plating

Someone should do some sort of YouTube show while the UK still has sun where they attempt to cook / melt stuff using just the power of this building. It would probably be funny for the first couple of times (better than 100+ episodes of will it blend anyway).
Where can I access the information on the case?
I assume there's no issue with posting this. Makes me wonder what a parabolic mirror the size of a building would do.
Makes me wonder what a parabolic mirror the size of a building would do.
Isn't that the concept behind a solar powered death ray.
Makes me wonder what a parabolic mirror the size of a building would do.
Thermal solar power generators are basically that. Those are reflectors, not photovoltaic cells. They all focus onto the top of the tower and heat it up enough to create steam for power generation.
I thought they heated some sort of sodium/other metal blend because it can carry more heat than steam.
I thought they heated some sort of sodium/other metal blend because it can carry more heat than steam.
They heat up molten salt which is stored and used to make steam.
Just saw it being reported on the news and they were showing a hairdresser near the spot - The mat/carpet by the entrance was singed black and the paint outside apparently bubbled. They claim it was getting to around 70c there.

I thought the tower was reflecting the sun light onto the panels on the ground. Why can't anything else on the internet explain it that simply.
Shouldn't people be using plastic that don't melt even if the air temperature hits 100 degrees celsius. An Acrylic glass melts at 160 degrees celsius. What kind of weak ass plastic that melts at temperatures well below 100 degrees celsius
Makes me wonder what a parabolic mirror the size of a building would do.
Defense of Syracuse happens.

I think somebody should check that out.
This sounds like a good way for people to get a tan in London, they should market this and make lots of money. (Or get sued after a load of people get third degree burns)
Is it possible to get a tan really fast and get out before you get burnt?
I'm so disappointed this article has nothing to do with these: [T]http://www.hightech-edge.com/wp-content/uploads/motorola-walkie-talkie.jpg[/t]
