I think they should make the Koran the state book instead.
I wouldn't mind.
I think they should make the Koran the state book instead.
I'm still waiting for a state to make "50 shades of grey" their state book.
And here I was all along thinking that Virginia was an ass backwards state.
A close second.
Song of Songs still the best book in the bible :v:
I dunno, the circumstances under which it was written were pretty bullshit. As for the OP, I think nominating a state book at all is pretty dumb anyways. Books are bundles of ideology; unless they select Captain Underpants or something people are bound to get pissed
At least Captain Underpants would be at their reading level.
No Apollo.
;) You know it.
LA you're better than this
FTFY
That's not how you spell "Gork and Mork"... Come to think of it, a Book of Gork and Mork would be the best book ever. All it would be is a book big enough to bash some git over the head, doesn't matter the contents.
How is this not endorsing a religion?
It's not endorsing a religion if that religion's the only right one, duh
the state book should be a book written by someone who is actually from that state IMO
This is outrageous, what the hell is wrong with America? Everybody knows that Qur'an deserves that place.
the state book should be a book written by someone who is actually from that state IMO
they'd just re-write their history books to reflect the true origin of the king james bible, and by that i mean it was written in Mississippi somehow, maybe this specific edition was spell checked there

Anyone else seeing the irony in having the KJV as the state book, written for an Anglo-Scots Protestant King, in a state that was named after a French King who persecuted Protestants? Louis XIV would be rolling in his grave. :v:
They should choose the Deist holy book.
christan eagles shedding tears this is true murica
These kinds of posts are old and unfunny.
How is this not endorsing a religion?
You don't have to be any particular religion to read a bible. It's a story book no different than harry potter in my eyes. Does reading Harry Potter necessarily "endorse" witchcraft or wizardry? Could one not simply read the bible just to do it? In a way, it's a smart choice beings that it's probably the most read book in the state, but the reasons it's dumb far out shadow that. But, it's a meaningless thing to have a "state book", so why not bestow the title upon an equally meaningless book?

It's the foundation of a religion. It's against the separation of church and state.
This is outrageous, what the hell is wrong with America? Everybody knows that Qur'an deserves that place.
i dunno man there might be a bit of bias here
It's a religious book. It's about a religion. It's the foundation of a religion. I also never knew that you were required to read the state book. You sure are teaching me a lot of things I never knew before.... You're right, there is a separation between church and state. I didn't know something as ridiculous as a "state book" was the same as forcing citizens to live by rules of a religion. My bad though. I'm sorry that I missed the opportunity to blow something way out of proportion like that....

It is by definition, a holy book. It is not a pre resequite you believe in it to read it but it IS a holy book for a religion and is recognized as a religious book. You're not required to read the state book. II never said that. Just like I never said it was a pre-req to be religious. Would you care to argue with me or is your argument "style" just putting words in peoples mouths? You're right, separation of church and state DON'T MATTER WHAT SO EVER! I mean, who woulda guess a state breaching the separation of church and state would be a violation of it!? I mean, who possibly would know that? oh besides someone who can fucking read.
Meanwhile Jesus is formally a king of Poland We all share the pain with you
Where is this? I can only find a news article on the proposal.

A state book holds no legal weight to it, it's just a feel-good thing that means nothing. I really don't understand your over-reaction to something that a lot of people don't even care about.

seperationofchurchandstate seperationofchurchandstate They keep fucking jumbling together!
