Mom Gives Kids Homemade Lunch, School Charges Them for 'Supplemental' Ritz Crackers

this "news article" (read: blog post) is incredibly alarmist. though the price is ridiculous, they're only charging it to give the kids ritz crackers per regulation, and theres nothing wrong with that at all.
id be happier with schools that cared about nutrition than schools that didn't care at all.
Saw this in the Metro on my way to work this morning. If there was a law like that in Toronto, parents would go apeshit.
Googled ritz crackers.
They're fucking cookies.

School nutrition is bullshit.
No it's not, but this is a bullshit way of enforcing it.

They're like saltine crackers but just a bit different.

Pretty much buttery round saltine crackers. Nice flavour but far from healthy.
These kids had meat, potatoes, milk, carrots, and an orange each? That's a perfectly acceptable lunch.

We call that a cookie.
you can't get kicked out of a mandatory system
just whine enough it'll get changed
you can't get ''kicked out'' technically, but when I was in elementary school they would just suspend me for a month then do it again on my first day back for the most laughable reasons because they didn't have a valid reason to expel me.

The Netherlands is weird then, that's far from a cookie, cookies have chocolate chips or raisins in them
School food isn't that good here either. Apparently one serving of typical school gunk costs less than an euro in our school.
The meat in pyttipanna was replaced with black regurgitated bits of mystery "meat," and there was also once something called "Taco Casserole." It was basically an abominable potato casserole with some taco spices sprinkled on it. The whole casserole was also covered in some weird sauce that tasted like barf and looked like it.
I know someone is going to come here and say "you should be happy for that food, there are starving children in japan y'know hueheue" It isn't food, it's SHIT. Though then again, most people who have told me this were kids in the 50s/60s/70s, when the school food was probably still edible and had any nutrients.
My school switched to using Aramark the second semester of my Freshman year. Ever since then the food has been barely passable and they had awesome soups, an actual salad bar with choices and everything.
Then this year they decided to use the National School Lunch program. They have calculated that 75% of the food made is thrown out, on top of that all the choice is gone. That "salad bar" is no longer a salad bar, you can either get a bag of cheap as hell looking tomatoes, a banana, or a little thing of that disgusting dark green lettuce.
They used to have nice French Fries too. But now they bake them sans salt (so they don't cook right) and they either under cook them to the point where it's as if they weren't cooked at all, or they cooked them so much they could pass as pissed on rocks.
As well, if you don't get one of these shitty frozen juice boxes, a 2% milk, a fruit, and whatever the fuck else they charge you $3.00. If you have all of that though you get charged $2.50. Half the time too the milk is spoiled as well.
