Notch wants trial by battle against Bethesda. In Quake 3.

I would pay money to watch this.
Have you heard of the kinds of sport they had?
One, for instance, involved tying a man to a stick and watching him fight the strongest Aztec warriors.
Another was fairly simple, having to hit a ball into a hoop on a wall. However, the loser would be brutally decapitated.
Well I was just applying the concept to the situation. >:(

I guess those Aztec sports aren't too unlike Quake 3. If Notch loses, at least, there'll certainly be someone's heart on his furnace.
Sued for not taking it seriously. American lawyers are pretty uptight and I highly doubt they would accept a video game challenge. This is about money for them, not having fun.
lmao
If they don't like it, they won't accept, you can't sue someone for "not taking it seriously" :downs:
No, I think Bethesda would rather drag you to trial and bankrupt you with damages as a lesson to anyone else that might use their trademarked words.
Hope this happens.
Unlikely though, lawyers don't bother with things they can't score money from.
Bethesda will probably hire some "professional" Quake players to duel for them if they every go through with it.
Reminds me of what the Aztecs did, they played sport instead of fighting to solve conflicts.
Except the loser ended up dying
Imagine if they chose CIV V instead of Quake 3.
The match would take weeks.
Am i the only one who thinks this is stupid
Am i the only one who thinks this is stupid
No, this is quite simply idiotic.
Am i the only one who thinks this is stupid
Of course not. You're just the only one who doesn't find it funny.
Would be awesome if it happened.
Sounds fun. They should try it.
why don't we settle for a game of chess?
why don't we settle for a game of chess?
Because that's too pretentious. Quake 3, on the other hand, is AWESOME.
I hope that Bestheda and Notch can shake hands before and after it, no matter the outcome.
Notch should have asked to duel with pistols at dawn. :v:
Notch is just being as ridiculous as bethsoft is with their lawsuit.
Why won't Notch's period of fame end? I find him to be an annoying prick who thinks he's hot shit because of minecraft.
Why won't Notch's period of fame end? I find him to be an annoying prick who thinks he's hot shit because of minecraft.
And Minecraft IS hot shit, and it's only getting better. If you don't like him, then you have a new cave to find, because he isn't going to go for a while.
I don't see why people are up in arms against Notch for this. The lawsuit is ridiculous in the first place, if he wants to make an equally outlandish demand, like a duel at Quake 3, let him.

Unless one of them picked Montezuma.
No, this is quite simply idiotic.
I don't see it as any more idiotic than an expensive trial where a bunch of men in suits stand in a court room arguing why they have the right to use the word "Scrolls" for their video games.

Quite frankly this sounds more fun, and it's probably only to point out how ridiculous this entire thing is

Exactly, this man understands!
Notch has not just challenged them to a game of quake 3, he has essentially said in his way, "the notion of your lawsuit is ridiculous and so I'm going to publically take the piss out of it"
If he just wanted to settle it over a game of Q3 he would have contacted them by email or whatever. He didn't.
He posted it on his blog. He's casually taking the piss out of the Bethesda legal team.
I'm pretty sure the devs of Bethesda would accept, but I doubt their lawyers will let them
Since it's the lawyers that work for the company and not the other way around, couldn't they just tell the lawyers to fuck off for once?
Notch watches Game of Thrones?
God I love this guy.
This must be streamed as well.... For witnesses obviously. :D
Great publicity for both parties if it happens.
They should make it a legal binding contract. And within the contract state the the people playing in the tournament have to be employees of the company they play for, and have to have worked there for at least a year (to prevent Bethesda from hiring pros).
