Homelessness expected to rise further as UK Government scraps housing benefit for young people
The only argument ive ever heard for targeting young people like this is "well they can always move back in with their parents!".
I have two brothers my mum has to support in a two bedroom council house, she is a single mother well into her fifties and working every single day for terrible pay, barely staying afloat without even a real bedroom to crash in at the end of the day.
The only reason I moved out in the first place was because we didn't get on, and that's putting it very very lightly. She lives a stressful life and I was her outlet for it, The bottom line is I felt that I was in genuine danger of being physically assaulted not only by her but by other family members that would she would threaten to get involved- so I had to get out.
She was so desperate for money that she actually siphoned off a good portion of my welfare money when I first moved out without telling me, she had to steal from her own son to survive.
But it's cool Tories, I'm 22 so obviously I have a stable home I can fall back into once you screw up the safety net for the most vulnerable people in our society- and I totally wont end up on the streets. Fucking privileged selfish cunts.
The Conservatives are so out of touch it is scary.

I'm so sorry to hear that.
I will never understand people being against social welfare or fearmongering over fraud or shite like that. I can only hope our social welfare and opportunities for young people will improve over the years.

"A pint of milk is £7.50 and £30 pounds is the price of my first round of drinks, not the difference between heating your flat or having dinner every night that week."
Fuck 'em.

I'm very fortunate in that I can afford to get by comfortably but I know this isn't the case for so many people in the UK. It honestly disgusts me that the Tories are happy to destroy the UK just to affirm their own feelings and bank accounts.
we need to cut spending in gvt.. because austerity..
Royals need money ?
double the Royal grant you say ?
oh god yes yes do it !

To be fair, much of that was to maintain historic buildings, which I agree with.
That being said it's interesting that they can fund that but can't seem to do anything with social services.

Wait, wouldn't these be the same kind of old bitter bastards that constantly shit talk the youth for still living with their parents?
The kind who don't understand that things have changed since the year 1985?

The kind who think vagrancy is laziness. "They could get a job if they wanted one."

Need a place to stay to get a job
Need a job to pay for a place to stay
At this point it sometimes feels as though we'd probably be better off if extremists came along and targeted May and her like than if they continued fucking people over.
As someone who is lucky enough to have a stable home, a part time job to fund niceties while I look for work and a university degree I can say that the tories are off their fucking rocker.
My local town, which while somewhat noteworthy is relativly small and there's a homeless person every other street and those are just the ones who are bold enough to stand out in public and beg. Goodness knows I wouldn't last 30 seconds homeless as I would be too sacred to know how to beg and probably get my face beaten in and my shit stolen by someone who's tougher and more desperate than I.
Homelessness is something nobody should ever have to deal with, it doesn't just harm people, it DESTROYS them. The loneliness, isolation and fear eats away at a person bit by bit until all that's left is either an empty shell or something barbaric and primal that will do all it can to survive. It's more than just misfortune, its a DISEASE and the Tory government seems hell bent on denying anyone any sort of respite.
I dread to think what a post-Brexit UK is going to be, we import %70 of our food from the EU and thats only going to get more expensive as the subsidies the farming industry got will be cut off driving the price of food sky fucking high. Energy bills will go up, as will housing as the Tory government sells off all the land to Russian and Chinese building companies who squat on it to artificially inflate the price. And GOD help you if you get sick because the Tories seem to have a vendetta against the NHS like it shot their dog or something.
Heck I would not be surprised if a Tory took his dog to the NHS and got upset when they refused to give it medical treatment.
A coup of terrorists taking out the government would be awful though, if anyone should do a coup it should be our own people and I'd really hope it didn't come to that in the first place. We can only hope the government will listen to a protest or perhaps they'll become so backwards they'll start deporting anyone they claim to be "undesirable" to Australia so we can enjoy a much needed holiday from this plagued rock.
I'm kind of confused, most of you guys who are struggling are amongst those who keep telling us how beneficial being a part of Europe is, when your own personal situations are quite bad?

Ive noticed a lot of inconsistencies like this in a lot of very popular right wing sentiments.
There are no jobs because the fuckin' immigrants steal them, but if you can't get a job then you are a lazy shitbag that doesn't deserve a free ride, if you can't afford to feed your kids they should starve- maybe you shouldn't have had them- but we aren't doing any of that abortion stuff because that shit's murder.

almost like our leaders were already independent from the EU or smth

I forgot that the EU are the ones making cuts to welfare

Being in the EU would hopefully have put pressure on the Conservatives to stop cutting services, that's why.

yeah cos only the bad shit is homegrown..

we've been members since 1973, I wouldn't hold your breath.

Omg. Are you being smarmy or do you genuinely not understand the subject we are discussing?
This is the second time today I find myself explaining something very simple to you today on this forum, so congrats if you were trying to be annoying, because it's annoying.
Things are already bad now due to Tory policy and excessive cuts, Things will get worse with leaving the EU.
I can give you one reason why my entire life as it is at the moment is hanging in a rather uncertain balance due to this brexit shitfest right now.
The element of the DWP that deals with disability benefit is funded entirely by the European Social Fund Programme.
While the money that goes into things like pensions and welfare comes from taxes, it doesn't cover the staff that provide the services involved, the EU pays for that.
Going from what we already know of the Tories, when receiving that money from the Eu is no longer viable on account of Britain shitting the bed hard on the "European relations" front, are they more likely to find an alternative source for the money? or cut the department entirely and blame brexit to avoid the backlash?
The answer?, I honestly don't fucking know! and that's horrible!. The support that allows me to continue scraping by with a roof over my head is tied to the EU and I have no idea how leaving is going to effect it, but considering the party calling the shots right now, I don't have the highest of hopes for any kind of bright future.
yeah cos only the bad shit is homegrown..
well if being a member was as beneficial as we keep hearing, folks wouldn't be so reliant on the welfare state, would they?
well if being a member was as beneficial as we keep hearing, folks wouldn't be so reliant on the welfare state, would they?
People are reliant on the welfare state because finding a job that actually pays you a living wage sucks.
well if being a member was as beneficial as we keep hearing, folks wouldn't be so reliant on the welfare state, would they?
Yeah and I'm sure driving food prices up and messing with the funding of aforementioned welfare is going to help matters.
Are you being serious or is this a really badly thought out ~gotcha!~ post?

I am pointing out that all 3 of you advocate the greatness of the EU whilst moaning about your plight?
I am pointing out that all 3 of you advocate the greatness of the EU whilst moaning about your plight?
And I'm just going to point out that he said specifically that he thinks his situation would be even worse without the EU, completely invalidating your point.
And I'm just going to point out that he said specifically that he thinks his situation would be even worse without the EU, completely invalidating your point.
i think it won't, completely invalidating your point.

I've never said the EU is great. What I am saying is that the current UK government is either criminally short-sighted, completely inept or doesn't give a shit about it's citizens.
You are just trying to force an argument no-one is having.
well if being a member was as beneficial as we keep hearing, folks wouldn't be so reliant on the welfare state, would they?
Are you suggesting that we wouldn't have needed a welfare state if we weren't in the EU?
I'm not going to say you're wrong, but that seems quite a leap
