I don't get why we have elections on Thursdays anyway. Weekend makes more sense to me.
So that once the results of the general election are declared in the early hours of Friday the new Prime Minister has the weekend to name his/her cabinet, announce other key appointments and generally celebrate. Then by Monday a full government should have been formed and they can get to business again on the first work day. For a Euro election this would make some sense if the majority of countries were chosen on a Thursday but if everyone apart from one country are choosing on a Sunday there is really no reason for us to continue holding the Euro elections on a Thursday but it does still make sense to host General Elections on a Thursday for the reason above and Local Elections too for the same kind of reasons, so that everything can resume operation as usual on Monday.

It's his job, so I'm expecting him to do it in the week. I, however, prefer to have a day when I'm not supposed to be working to vote (especially if I have time saturday to read up on the elections, read through every party's platform one last time etc)
Hahaha OP You can't just edit shit like that into the quote. I know it's Daily Mail but come on, no one would fall for that. What the fuck do you think you are doi oh oh my
Yeah, I had to double-take at that part because it seemed unbelievable even by Daily Mail standards, but uh, it seems to have actually been written. Printed, even.

You can also vote by postal vote if you can't personally make it to the polling station because of work or whatever reason.
I hadn't noticed it was always held on a Thursday, actually. This is just europhobic bunk - business as usual at the Daily Mail.

Work by 9am Work til 5pm Pick up kids Home by 5:30/6 Cook Eat at 7:30 Get ready by 8 Arrive at 9-ish Have to wait in a fucking long queue - Like the last election where there were too many people they had to close the doors before people got to vote. Sunday just makes more sense to the voter.
WWIII is gonna happen between the EU and UK I TELL YA
The hero Britain [del]wants[/del] needs
I wasn't serious, the guy is a buffoon.

Thursday just makes it more convenient for the new government and means that on Monday when everyone goes back to work we have a functional government with ministers appointed and already in place for the civil services and the stock markets to return to work smoothly.
We couldn't tell.
Well I just wanted to be sure nobody thought I truly supported such a moron.

When you're in power or in opposition you have people who currently shadow the government departments and you'd have a clear idea of who you'd create a cabinet with. Secondly, I don't think there is any evidence that a market would be greatly affected by an unsure cabinet or undeclared one as long as there is a clearly stable government election. The last election took many weeks of deliberation and holding the vote on a weekday would have had no benefit over a weekend. All we're doing is putting traditional placeholders (Weekends vs weekdays) to judge when a government is ready to govern, when that is generally not the case - especially as we may have more political unrest in the future. I just don't see the benefit of a weekday

Though really I think Saturday would be the best way to please most people, rather than Thursday or Sunday. Parents don't have to pickup kids and lots of people are off work although not as many as on a Sunday. The new government has Sunday to take over everything, announce everything and whatnot then everyone who's at home can watch Andrew Neil blab on about it.
