Steam itself updates on its own, and there's no way to avoid it. Not quite a firmware update, but still a mandatory update standing between you and your games.

I think the problem people have is how they can change things around without saying anything. It shouldn't be a big deal, but if they're taking away entire features like installing other OSes, then who knows what else they'll change?

Sony is forcing the firmware update to block people from installing linux OSes.
Valve is making several of their names (namely TF2) able to run in linux without wine or emulating software.

Also if you have a problem paying 50 dollars for a quality service then don't pay for it, Jesus it isn't like it is going to break the bank or anything. Anyone with a job makes more then that in a day.
We get periodic updates that are actually nice, we get things like facebook support with in-game integration, netflix, games on demand, we get to play with actors/famous people for community events every month, we have everything PS3 has and more. So it isn't like LOL U BEING RIPPED OFF
At least when we accept an agreement we don't have to worry about what SOE is doing.

Before you start calling people smartasses, someone shouldn't be buying a xbox or buying games if they need the money to feed their family. It's called priories, if you can afford the gaming console, the games and xbox live or anything extra they more then likely can afford to put food on their table and take care of their family.

The one thing I have against the 360 is how you pay for live, sure it isn't expensive by any means, but you get the feeling that you HAVE to play it everyday or else it goes to waste, I'd rather have freedom to play whenever I can, but with pay2play I can't.

Tim, please get this thinking out of your mind, this is why you're so biased, you think it's hard not to be and normal, when it's extremely easy.
For example, I own a PS3 and like it more than a 360, but that is because I find it more suiting to me, however I respect the opinion of 360 users and how they like it more.
