You should be a philospher. Most people have realized that "why?" will never be answered. The more you try to answer, the more questions that pop up.
I considered it, but when I realized I would never know "why?" I decided it was in my best interest to just try and enjoy life. But it's good to not forget about it, and become ignorantly entangled in some dogmatic religion.
The greatest Greek Philosophers did not discussing things on the scale of the Hadron Collider.
It's because they couldn't have possibly known about it.
It's because they couldn't have possibly known about it.
Because we are more advanced than they were scientifically. And "The meaning of life" is simple as all hell. Reproduction and continuation of the species.
What is the point of that? We're supposed to proceed with day to day life, living as drones and zombies of something larger and never wonder why? You don't want enlightenment? You don't want to know? You're an odd fellow indeed. Personally, my only goal in life IS enlightenment. That is why I read on philosophy, math, science, anything that gets me one step closer like a madman. But I also formulate and present my own philosophies. Why (dumb fucking question there again)? Because it puts me one step closer to what I crave most. That isn't to say I don't enjoy life as it is, however. I have to live for something in the meantime.
Well enjoy wasting your life achieving nothing. I do want to know, but the thing is, I'm not gonna make up fairy tales or spend my whole life chasing the question in pursuit of the answer. If the answer does present itself eventually, I'll be like "Cool." and continue doing what I've been doing, being awesome.
Because we are more advanced than they were scientifically.
Okay what is your point? Doesn't mean they are stupid.
The greatest Greek Philosophers did not discussing things on the scale of the Hadron Collider.
But again, the Hadron collider falls in the scale of science. If you took some scientist into a time machine and had him explain to Plato and Aristotle how atoms worked, it solves only physical questions, but there is still no gain on an answer to why we exist.
The greatest Greek Philosophers did not discussing things on the scale of the Hadron Collider.
They did. They wondered why, how, when, who, and what. Why did we build the Collider? To answer these. Sure, not on a literal level they didn't imagine we'd be smashing inconceivably tiny particles of matter into each other at incredible speeds, but here we are centuries later wondering the same thing.
:munch:

It's how, not why.
:munch:
Hey this is a good discussion here, mostly absent of morons and flaming! Enjoy that popcorn! What a rare event we are seeing here.
What the fuck do the LHC and greek philosophers have in common? You make no sense woman!
:munch:
You're a walking oxymoron. Enjoy that popcorn.

I could be shitting gold coins and wiping my ass with Swiss bank bonds and not be happy. I could be poorer than the dirt I tread and be happy just in knowing, however. I enjoy day to day life because of my quest, my journey, my pursuit. Sometimes the chase is just as good, if not better than, the catch. And I fabricate no tales, I propose what I think is logical as a theory and seek an ultimate answer. That is science applied to spiritualistic philosophy, not "fairy tales".
They didn't become great because they believed in religion.
You didn't understand my post. Them believing in religion didn't make them brain dead idiots, like some atheists think.
Hey this is a good discussion here, mostly absent of morons and flaming! Enjoy that popcorn! What a rare event we are seeing here.
So much for that:
You're a walking oxymoron. Enjoy that popcorn.

Existence does not need a metaphorical reason. It's how, not why.
I disagree, because how is explained by why. How do airplanes fly? The airfoil. Why? Because of pressure differences over the camber of the wing. Why does pressure exist? Why does air exist? What created it? Why do atoms exist? What created them? Why? No matter how much science is unearthed, we will never reach a full conclusion like a linear book. Perhaps, existence is NOT linear then!

And if you're so scientific you'd know to call your propositions hypotheses. You're no man of science.
So much for that:
Considering it wasn't a flame, but rather calling you out for being so contradictory of your own positions, I'd say his point still stands.
Why and how are dependent on each other or so I think. Without one, the other is useless.
So logically according to the very definition of why and how, the discovery of ultimate meaning is theoretically unreachable, since it would require the elimination of both of these. We would have to know why and how. You know, God doesn't make sense either. "God is all knowing." "How?"
Buddhism is way more of a philosophy on life than an actual religion.
Then Christianity is way more of a philosophy on life than an actual religion.
Then Christianity is way more of a philosophy on life than an actual religion.
???????????????????????????????????????? Jesus christ.
Considering it wasn't a flame, but rather calling you out for being so contradictory of your own positions, I'd say his point still stands.
I see no post where I contradict myself.
Then when you're 80 years old on your deathbed you'll be thinking "What the fuck did I do with my life." And if you're so scientific you'd know to call your propositions hypotheses. You're no man of science.
I am proud not to be a man of modern science. Science today serves to put us one step closer to mutually assured destruction and make our lives easier. Too easy I might add. I am a scientist of the long lost art, SCIENCE. A hypothesis is a proposed answer to a question. A theory is a more refined hypothesis. I develop my original proposition until I have a definitive answer. So in reality, it is a hypothesis, later a theory, finally a conclusion. I don't use flashier terms to make myself a scientist. When I do lie on my deathbed, I will take pride in the fact I looked for something in a world of nothing. I don't want your money, I don't want your recognition, and I certainly don't want your lifestyle. I don't see how I can simplify or justify anything beyond that.
Perhaps Atheists are defensive because a lot of the time religious fanatics were batshit insane and liked to prosecute people for their beliefs.
And they prosecute people for their beliefs. They're not on the defensive, they're on the offensives most of the time. Goes for both sides, just because one side acts like a bunch of idiots doesn't mean it gives you the right to act like an idiot.
Don't have to, it's their job to prove he does.
If you claim something at least back it up. It isn't "the other guys job to prove their theory" This statement just proves how ignorant you are.
I don't understand people who post like this. It's like they believe 75% of the world is full of morons who droll in a corner all day. Almost every great person in the world had some sort of religion. I just don't get it.
Being religious doesn't make you incompetent, stupid, or ignorant - which everyone thinks. You can be intelligent and be a devoted christian/Buddhist/Mormon/ect As for science, it is to busy being skull fucked by political views and religion. But that doesn't mean political views and religion are bad, it just means as a scientists you have to prove your theory with even more evidence. If we didn't have morals or anything like that constantly going head to head with science people would be getting kidnapped and experiment and we would have inhumane things going on. Being a scientists isn't easy nor is it going to get any easier. Its the job of logic and understanding to cut though the red tape. Sometimes science can be as corrupt as religion or politics. No system is perfect, no system can describe everything in the fucking universe, every group has bad apples - anyone who says otherwise is in denial.
Then Christianity is way more of a philosophy on life than an actual religion.
I guess but what I am saying is that Buddhism is a thing in the mind. Eliminate suffering by rejecting the existence of an independent self, accepting life. Christian "philosophy" is just ignoring science and thinking God is controlling everything, or at least has utmost authority. Indeed it is possible to be a Buddhist Atheist or Buddhist Muslim.
Changed thread title Stop spinning the news and starting shitfights you guys
Aww. ): Looks like we need to relocate the debate to a more appropriate area.
