Do they know what the element of surprise is?
only the best janitors know the element of supplies
Underestimating the enemy is one of the worst mistakes you can make.
It's not as if any of us are making the tough decisions though, is it? The military are going to be taking the seriously, ofcourse, but whether we treat them as a threat or not really doesn't equate to much beyond the inevitable wanker who will cry; "I told you so" if and when this situation is resolved.
Finland was facing a badly disorganized red army across land with terrible infrastructure during winter. During 1939.
my point of the "superior" force expecting the "minor" foe to be a piece of cake (and the "minor" faction killing tank columns with skis and a few bottles of petrol) still stands; if they'd thought us to be anything more than a bunch of sitting ducks they would have prepped the invasion much better and we would have been steamrolled faster than you can say "Molotov-Ribbentrop pact"
All I know about the NK military is that they have broken MIG7 planes.
All I know about the NK military is that they have broken MIG7 planes.
They have a rifle for like every 40 men or some shit, and they are barely kept fed. The real problem is when a war breaks out and it goes full Guerrilla just like in Vietnam.
North Korea, can we go back to not scaring the shit out of me?
They have a rifle for like every 40 men or some shit, and they are barely kept fed. NK doesn't have the same capacity for it as North Vietnam did and North Vietnam had Soviet help. I don't think South Korea would have something like the Viet Cong popping up during a conflict like this.
North Korea, can we go back to not scaring the shit out of me?
no turning back the end is nigh we're all going to die
most of the technology used by NATO is cold war era.
What? All of the super military powers in the NATO have modern MBT's and equipment. The only country that may help I can think of right now that still uses a cold war tank as their MBT is the Czech Republic, and their T-72's have been modernized.
But who would supply these guerillas? NK doesn't have the same capacity for it as North Vietnam did and North Vietnam had Soviet help.
Do the underground tunnels still exist that allow an army from NK to reach SK in 20 minutes? I remember in a documentary them talking about NK tunnels that lead to the border so they could move an army underground.
I believe so, also believe there are many more tunnels that the South Korean military hasn't found yet. But not too sure.
Do the underground tunnels still exist that allow an army from NK to reach SK in 20 minutes? I remember in a documentary them talking about NK tunnels that lead to the border so they could move an army underground.
Do you have a link to this documentary?
that's modernized equipment. at core, a lot of the technology is very, very old. in fact if you look up the introduction dates on air and sea vehicles you'll find that most were conceived back in the 60's and 70's. (e.g F-17, F-16, etc) even the Abrams is old as fuck
Age doesn't really matter. Effectiveness does - and it can also still be upgraded. The MG3 is a good example of this.
i find this quite worrying, as far as i'm aware NK have issued more threats this time than ever before maybe they really are planning something? also, while i'm sure that NK could never manage to hurt USA, China, japan, etc because of the complicated system of nuke-detecting satellites and anti missile systems what would happen to a place like SK, where they don't have this kind of tech
No one's concerned about NK winning a war. What we are concerned about is NK killing innocent civilians just because the country possess the logical reasoning skills of a four year old.
Those idiots are going to set off Strangelove's device
The difference is that this isn't one half of the world vs the other half like the Cold War was. This is everyone vs North Korea and maaaybe Iran if they're feeling generous.
Saber-rattling, as usual. If North Korea was truly planning an attack on South Korea, they wouldn't ruin the element of surprise by warning the world about it.
that's what the USSR thought of Finland in 1939 and Finland wasn't even a batshit crazy near-suicidal dictatorship living in the la-la land
Finland still lost by technicality, Finland had the terrain and weather on their side, Finland was also fighting one country and was backed by Sweden. I'm not saying the war won't be brutal I'm saying that it won't be anywhere near as bad as Talvisota.

Guys I've cracked it! Apple are funding the North Korean military and pushing them to war so they can wipe out Samsung. NK's secret weapon is a huge swarm of Foxconn built UAVs armed with missles that are AirPlay enabled so the revolutionary forces can broadcast messages of reunification as they wipe out US imperialists and their allies.
-snip- too bloody tired
would it be at all possible that the U.S.A. would bring back the draft if war happened? this is what is scaring me the most
most of the technology used by NATO is cold war era.
But everyone else? Like UAV? Drones? Jet planes and stealth bombers? http://future-weapon.dealopia.com/images/gatling-gun-m134-minigun.jpg and http://battlenations.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/800px-M-32_Grenade_Launcher.jpg and http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_RaZ7btje5Jo/TKeCx-T23WI/AAAAAAAAA5M/VVPN1OnAYxc/s1600/Mk_47_Striker_40_automatic_grenade_launcher_US_Army_United_States_001.jpg and http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EFXMxyMnND4/Te277N56piI/AAAAAAAAAIM/fUc1TxN1Kro/s1600/50+Cal+Sniper+Rifle+%25282%2529.jpg NK has literally none of that, and I just started. http://voices.yahoo.com/amazing-military-technology-greatest-military-6576918.html?cat=15 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmUfiPRrbMw I'm sorry but if NK went up against a bunch of armies with the shit we have today + size we have today, there is just no way. I mean shit http://www.militaryfactory.com/armor/north-korean-army.asp
But everyone else? Like UAV? Drones? Jet planes and stealth bombers? NK has literally none of that, and I just started.
would it be at all possible that the U.S.A. would bring back the draft if war happened? this is what is scaring me the most
Bringing back the draft is always POSSIBLE, but it would be political suicide for all involved.
Even with all that fancy stuff, you should never underestimate your enemy.
True, and I believe they can give a fair fight, after all their greatest weapon is their insane brainwashed mentality and their mass arrogance, and the underdog still has a chance. But I simply cannot see them doing MASSIVE damage, especially in invading anything. South Korea? Japan? Ok. The west? Definitely can't see it.
you guys honestly think NK will stand a chance against the U.S alongside the rest of the world? I'm not worried one bit.
Elitist
If any other nation said this, it would be considered a legitimate reason for invasion. With NK you can't tell if they are bullshitting or not.
Going to post this again: North Korea is not going to be an easy country to beat, stop shitting on them. They have one of the largest militaries in the word. They have over A MILLION active military personnel, and are capable of conscripting six more million whenever shit goes south. They have stockpiles and stockpiles of tanks and artillery, the latter of which is aimed at Seoul ( So, in the end, the capital of South Korea WILL be blown to smithereens, many will die, and it will take years to repair and rebuild. ) They also have something like twenty nuclear silos, and we know they can shoot at least as far as Japan, meaning they can at will destroy South Korea. We don't know if those warheads can be intercepted in such a short distance. Secondly, the North Korean military strategy and regime and just about everything is designed to counter the United States. They KNOW they have crappier equipment, and so they have designed tactics to circumvent that. Their propaganda statues are positioned at main roads to be destroyed and used as road blocks, they have bomb shelters in their apartment building, on and so forth. USA can't just NUKE them, nobody would let them, they would be killing countless of millions of innocent oppressed people. As for air superiority, sure, but - . . . Technology doesn't win in the air all the time, either. Serbia shot down supposedly 'invisible' American spy plains with old Russian equipment, probably as old or older than what North Korea has. In finality, that'd be the bloodiest, cruellest war since WW2, and none of you should be looking forward to it. Millions will die.
not to mention the fact, that they have the highest number of artillery in the world, and guess what, Seoul is 30 FUCKING KILOMETERS FROM THE NORTH KOREAN BORDER if a war really escalates, then Seoul will be utterly devastated, millions WILL die, north korea will probs be wiped out too but in the first 35 minutes they can launch millions of fucking artillery shells at south korea before 'murrica can intervene i just really fucking hope that china doesnt get into this, it would worsen the relations with US and china as fuck, possibly to trade embargo, which would lead to a giant increase in prices, which would lead to another global economic crisis. we really dont need this right now [editline]9th March 2013[/editline] also not mentioning that this will inflame tensions between taiwan and china, japan and south korea, japan and china, and the whole region is like a barrel of explosives waiting to expolde
Why would they be "financially obliterated", can you back your statement?
China gives NK all the food, oil, etc that they have. China would cut that off if they even started an attack anywhere.
