I forgot skins existed, I used one once for like one day back when they were first introduced and just rolled the default look ever since.
i really want to bring back bad reading for you two heavily unfinished means heavily unfinished
No, I understood that the parts with the default colors were yet to be redesigned, it's just baby blue and white are a horrendous choice for most applications. They can pull it off if they are "cutesy" or whatever but Steam, being a digital games distributor, is anything but.
I'm surprised there's no Steam skin Workshop where people can update their skins and instantly get them sent to people
You don't actually want that What you want is a half-assed music player instead
Haven't ever changed the default skin since I started using Steam in 2003, hah.
smells like cold sweat and crusty rags in here (User was banned for this post ("Trolling/why reply?" - SteveUK))
Absolutely love pixelvision but ever since big picture was incorporated to steam there was this ugly as fuck HDTV button on the top left that's always bugged me.
I actually fixed this the other day, using the default Valve artwork: I posted it on the official group's discussion, along with the code changes, and nobody so much as acknowledged it's existence. Oh well...

Oh well...
Yurisuika and I chose to remove it on Deshou, because it can just be opened from the view menu [editline]3rd January 2015[/editline] We do have a custom image made for it though. Funny enough, the image used by valve is a flat image gradient with which is applied to a controller shaped mask. it's fucking weird how they've implemented it into the interface. God knows why anyone chose to do it like that, it's so fucking shit
I use the metro skin, it looks great. I'm not a huge fan of the in-game overlay though, Pixelvision was better on that front.

Oh well...
Yeah the official discussion group was kinda meh, I posted some fixes for the fonts (It claims to use Segoe UI Semibold, but 90% of the declarations are wrong and it uses Segoe UI instead) last year and I had 2 replies, one from the skin author saying he'd look into it (Didn't) and somebody else who knew me saying hi. Edit: That's a nice thing about Pressure, it's hosted on GitHub so you can just file a bug report and include a pull request.
Love pixelVision, ever since I found out that you can change the steam skins. It became my first skin used, tried others like metro but didn't blend well.
Love this skin but I thought it was discontinued a long time ago already, the thread on the steam forums never seemed to be updated. The downloads page in steam has been broken for me for ages. If I could use an old version for a year and a half I'm sure this last version will last me long enough until someone else picks up on development. :v:

If you guys are looking for a new Steam skin, i've been using this recently and it's a pretty good skin http://steamcommunity.com/groups/pressureskin
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/OsRI63U.png[/thumb] Big fan of modern Air for Steam, myself.
Aw shit, only ever used Pixelvision for Steam since I learned you could have a custom one; And for so long that I went "what the hell" when I installed Steam on my new laptop because I thought the default skin had changed until I realized. Hope the newest version lasts me long into the future, because I can't find any other skin I like (even amongst the ones mentioned here).
Guy should pass the baton to someone else until he's able to take it up again. With all the fans of the skin, there's oughta be a few who can take it on.
pressure is looking pretty good other than the fact that it has really ungodly ugly large text
I can't really abide by any of the custom skins that are up to date; but all the same it's sad to see one of the best go.
I've been using the Steam Pressure skin for a while now after having used Pixelvision for a long time. I really love how Pressure looks. [T]http://i.imgur.com/v1K6Ttu.png[/T]

[T]http://i.imgur.com/v1K6Ttu.png[/T]
It'd be my first choice when PixelVision breaks currently but I really am not a fan of the smooth gradients it has. They're only slightly better than a flat color.
God fucking dammit.
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/OsRI63U.png[/thumb] Big fan of modern Air for Steam, myself.
Didn't know they updated the android app with a material redesign
You don't actually want that What you want is a half-assed music player instead
I genuinely don't know why they even wasted time with that only to half ass it before seemingly dropping it
pressure is looking pretty good other than the fact that it has really ungodly ugly large text
I like the big font mainly due to my eyes being so bad.
Didn't know they updated the android app with a material redesign
funny you mention that, one of the main inspirations behind the current edition of Air has been said to be Material not that I'm complaining, it's a damn fine design language if I do say so
Just seeing pixelvision for the first time and I think it looks amazing.
Don't know the term, but graphics pretending to be real 3D surfaces is so 2000. It's old-hat now.
That's called Skeuomorphism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skeuomorph
Many computer programs have a skeuomorphic graphical user interface that emulates the aesthetics of physical objects. An example of this trend was the 1998 RealThings package.[12] A more extreme example is found in many music synthesis and audio processing software packages, which closely emulate physical musical instruments and audio equipment. Functional input controls like knobs, buttons, switches, and sliders are often careful duplicates of those found on the original physical device being emulated. Some software even includes graphical elements of the original design that serve no user interface function, such as handles, screws, and ventilation holes. Even systems that do not employ literal images of some physical object frequently contain skeuomorphic elements, such as slider bars that emulate linear potentiometers and tabs that behave like tabbed file folders. Skeuomorphs need not be visual. The shutter-click sound emitted by most camera phones when taking a picture is an auditory skeuomorph: it does not come from a mechanical shutter, which camera phones lack, but from a sound file in the phone's operating system. Another example is the swiping hand gesture for turning the "pages" or screens of a tablet. ============== The arguments against skeuomorphic design are that skeuomorphic interface elements use metaphors that are more difficult to operate and take up more screen space than standard interface elements, that this breaks operating system interface design standards, that it causes an inconsistent look and feel between applications,[13] that skeuomorphic interface elements rarely incorporate numeric input or feedback for accurately setting a value, that many users may have no experience with the original device being emulated, that skeuomorphic design can increase cognitive load with visual noise that after a few uses gives little or no value to the user, and that skeuomorphic design limits creativity by grounding the experience to physical counterparts.[14]
Pixelvision isn't exactly skeuomorphism, because it isn't exacty pretending to be an actual real-world object in its interface design. Its a bit closer to Web 2.0 design aesthetic, which is skeuomorphism-lite - buttons/gradients/surfaces trying to emulate actual buttons/3D surfaces despite being in the realm on 2D space The current "metro-style" design trend is heavily against that style of design, because "metro-style" design prefers simplicity and being more harmonious with the fact all of these interfaces are operating on purely 2D flat planes. As such interfaces designed in this manner tend to harmonize with the fact that they are viewed on 2D screens and simply work/read/flow/feel better than those that try to force a kind of "3D perspective" on something that is impossible to be 3D for 99% of users. That said Pixelvision is pretty tastefully done, and is not an extreme example of skeuomorphism/web 2.0 aesthetic at all, so it honestly doesn't look that bad. [editline]3rd January 2015[/editline]
I've felt the bpm was a pain to handle with a mouse
Uh maybe because it isn't designed to be used with a mouse?
I kind of wish Steam had an option for a default skin. As in not the ugly as sin default theme but an actual theme that uses your OS' resources. That would look a lot nicer. Keep all the weird dark stuff to the overlay which breaks 90% of the time anyways.
Hopefully it doesn't take to much to fix issues, minor things shouldn't be too hard. But then again we are talking about Steam, a Valve product. Modding ain't so strong with Valve recently, at-least in my honest opinion. personally use a modified Air skin which I'm very happy with [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/eDFHYc.png[/t]
