Let me explain something to you, kind sir. By that same logic, and by that i mean the "Only criminals need be afraid" logic, you are subjecting yourself to Totalitarianism in no time. You should be afraid, you should resist, because the government isn't always looking out for your best interest, your secrets aren't always secure and people have a mother fucking right to privacy. I bet you would let airport security stick a camera up your asshole to look for bombs, nothing to hide there right?
Just to make something clear, the loopy thing wasn't referring to you but to the guy you quoted. Are you familiar with the term 'straw man'? That's what you're doing right here. I never said anything about, say, sticking camera's all over the place or sticking a camera up my ass, you're just exaggerating shit to try and make your point.
:raise:
Warrants are only in place so cops can't abuse there power. Outside of that they have no real use. Not to say they don't do searches with out warrants but those are void unless you let them search. However it doesn't apply to cars well you are driving them if they have reasonable and probable cause.
I was rather confused by what he said as well. If you have nothing to worry about, why would you give a damn? His examples are contradicting his own sarcastic remark.
Have you ever heard the quote "Those who surrender freedom for security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one."?

Some people don't like that their passwords can be coerced from them by the government, some people don't like police barging into their house without reasons, that is why warrants exist. Some people don't like being monitored underneath their clothing for bombs. There is certain degrees of breaches of privacy people are willing to accept, but to distort this and project this upon other people is amoral at best. You aren't everyone, and not everyone believes that the government should be able to monitor every aspect of their lives just because they "have nothing to hide". Chances are also that a law will come along you don't agree with and you won't really get any say in the matter. Centralized government has taken care of that. You will be a criminal and everything you thought was right will be knocked on its ass.
I never said anything about, say, sticking camera's all over the place or sticking a camera up my ass, you're just exaggerating shit to try and make your point.
Well yes you are, eventually that is. If you're fine with surrendering your privacy and civil rights to be safer from criminals, you should have no problem with CCTV around your house, in your bathroom or your wive's ass, right? I mean, they can catch burglars breaking into your home easily, how great isn't that?
Have you ever heard the quote "Those who surrender freedom for security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one."?
That would be 'those who sacrifice essential liberty for temporary safety deserve neither', but it's pretty much the same.
Most of the things i said are actually happening in your country, and when i used "stick a camera up your ass" i was actually giving you a decent example.
Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing, what country are we referring to? this whole "if you have nothing to hide why not" is such an asinine and stupid reason to let people just do what they want. it's called privacy. are you also okay with a police officer searching your house and tracking your car. nothing to hide, after all.
For fuck's sake, when did exaggerating arguments into stupid bullshit become a valid way of debating?
Ok now we have a problem, either you don't have any idea what you're talking about or you didn't read what i said. What the fuck did i exaggerate.
That would be 'those who sacrifice essential liberty for temporary safety deserve neither', but it's pretty much the same. Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing, what country are we referring to? For fuck's sake, when did exaggerating arguments into stupid bullshit become a valid way of debating?
what exaggerating? he's just applying the same fucking logic you're using to other areas. its not even much of a stretch.
what exaggerating? he's just applying the same fucking logic you're using to other areas. its not even much of a stretch.

Ok now we have a problem, either you don't have any idea what you're talking about or you didn't read what i said.
You're saying sticking cameras up random people's asses isn't exaggerating?
Oh, so you didn't even read what i said then, the thing you quoted. Good for a moment there i thought you were even more stupid then i originally speculated, phew.
You're saying sticking cameras up random people's asses isn't exaggerating?
He might have goatse on his PC. Then it's really not exaggerating.
You're saying sticking cameras up random people's asses isn't exaggerating?
it's the same logic. if you have nothing to hide, then you won't mind. therefore if you refuse, then that means you do have something to hide and so the law should be allowed to do it. tell me what is the difference between sticking camera's in people's asses and the government being able to force anyone to give up their secrets based on a suspicion of guilt.
Oh, so you didn't even read what i said then, the thing you quoted. Good for a moment there i thought you were even more stupid then i originally speculated, phew.
How about instead of calling me stupid you try to, I don't know, make a point without typing 3 paragraphs of text?
He might have goatse on his PC. Then it's really not exaggerating.
Great, thanks.
it's the same logic. if you have nothing to hide, then you won't mind.
Maybe people wouldn't enjoy their porn folder to be examined by police? Legal porn, of course.
This is why we have the Fifth Amendment in the US.
Maybe people wouldn't enjoy their porn folder to be examined by police? Legal porn, of course.
exactly my point there. i was just pointing out the logic he was using, and why its flawed.
How about instead of calling me stupid you try to, I don't know, make a point without typing 3 paragraphs of text?
I made my point, interesting that you have nothing of value to add.
For fuck's sake, when did exaggerating arguments into stupid bullshit become a valid way of debating?
It's not exaggeration really - The reasoning "if you have nothing to hide, you won't mind" is applicable to any degree of intrusion including totalitarianism. The point of this basically being that it isn't a logical reasoning at all, so all kindly stop using it to back up governmental intrusions to our privacy.
He probably has it written down somewhere, I doubt he has a 50 character password memorized unless its something like AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA repeated constantly.
It could be: thislongpasswordhelpstoprotectmydrivethatsfullofCP
I wonder how the hell he remembered it all. I guess if it was all in a sequence that meant something to him it wouldn't be a problem...
supercalifragliliciousexpialadocious2! ?
This is why we have the Fifth Amendment in the US.
They can still subpoena you for your password and jail you if you refuse
If he'd rather have 4 months of cell instead of giving them the pass then it's kinda obvious that he has some illegal stuff on there (that's not warez)
But we have the right to remain silent.
Unless there is a law saying you have to give your password over. Which there is. So drop it.
"i forgot"
and this, gentlemen, is why we have something called Truecrypt Hidden Volumes.
"i forgot"
This is valid in the US. In fact, it's probably better to lie and say you forgot rather than say you won't give them the password. There is no way to prove that you didn't forget.
His refusal to give the password is quite clearly illegal; it's the same as though the police were issued a warrant to search his house, and he refused to let them inside.
You could forget the password, just as you could loose the keys to your home. Only difference is that it doesn't take several trillion bazillion years to open the door.
My password for my computer is my name and its one the start page.
