I take great offense to this.
I am in a Fraternity and I can easily say that 99% of all Greek life is NOT like this. These guys sound like dicks to do that to their fucking brother. If I had alcohol poisoning I know my bros would get me proper care (IF I got to that point. We have people whose sole jobs it is to NOT let us get that bad. We would get sent home hours before anything like that happened.)
Don't generalize because Its the majority of irresponsible guys like this particular SAE chapter who give the entirety of Greek life a bad name. We're already under enough scrutiny as it is. Also its Fraternity, not Frat. Saying Frat shows that you are ignorant of Fraternal customs and culture.
I mean holy shit does this chapter do not have Risk Managers at all? A good Risk Manager would've shut down the shot contest when it was still an idea.
Also my chapter raised $15k for ALS this year and spent over 200 hours of community service, and the chapter at another school to which I'm transferring to raised $30k for ALS, among community service and outreach programs.
Being in a Fraternity is a lot more than you are generalizing it to be.
Why all the funnies? I'm not being funny. Don't you also hate it when people generalize something you are apart of, and insult it, even going to say you "hate it"?
I think the funnies are because nobody can tell if you are actually being sarcastic as fuck or not.
I honestly can't tell, and if it was really that obvious feel free to pile refrigerator boxes all over my house.
Germany representing! Beer glasses are 1/2 liters AT THE LEAST! Anything below is a ripoff or you're in a part of germany that clearly hates beer.
That being said, 20 shots is a lot but nothing to get .4% from. I'm no stranger to drinking and I have my share of heavy drinkers among my friends, but
never have I seen anyone get as ridiculously drunk as .4! I don't even know how you would do that without force-feeding a person liquor after they passed out
I'm not gonna rate you dumb I can see where you're coming from. Not a lot of people on FP or Reddit or wherever have a positive sentiment about Fraternity and Sorority life in general but I am being completely serious. I don't like it when people generalize something that I love. I wouldn't be the man I am today without joining a Fraternity, most people like to shit on Greek life because of shit like this and that Delta Gamma from Maryland email getting into the news but its all the vocal minority. Shenanigans do go down but when they do its in a safe and fun environment. Greek life is under such scrutiny that if we get busted for something the entire chapter can get shut down and people lose their letters (Which is very bad, pretty much getting kicked out). So we go out of our way to make sure that we do nothing we can be busted for.
A fraternity is pretty much a company, and is run usually by a corporate headquarters. Fraternities (prolly Sororities too) spend millions and millions of dollars to keep up good Public Relations, we do community service and philanthropy events as well to keep our good name.
In all honesty I see that chapter of SAE getting shut down entirely, or AT LEAST getting suspended from the university. Some people might get kicked out too.
This stuff does not go unpunished.
stop rating me funny DaysBefore its bothering me :v:

I'm Czech and I confirm this.
20 shots of tequila in the space of 2 hours, are you retarded?
He probably will be now.
I had a 2 day drinking binge where I drank two 36 packs and a whole bottle of whiskey with only one other person. I was good, was totally fucking shitfaced but didn't die. My mom told me I should have been dead though haha. Worst hangover of my fucking life though. I thought I would die. Never doing that again it was fucking reckless as hell. But yeah 20 shots isn't THAT much.
I'm such a lightweight, my first time drinking I was drinking some gross ass green apple Smirnoff shit and I threw up so much afterwards :v:
Are you harbouring some kind of buried resentment?
Honestly dude I like your posts (congrats on getting excepted into the Sanius Squad btw) but now it feels like you're trying to hard.

I honestly don't even know what exactly a fraternity is. I mean, I just looked it up on wikipedia but now I'm even more confused than I was before.

Slovenia here, you can get smaller than 0.5l glasses if you really want to, but half a liter is the standard as far as I know
What I don't get is why people here are saying 20 shots is like nothing.
20 shots in 2 hours is a fuckton to drink. You need to be binge alcoholic supreme with a liver made of pure gold to manage that kind of shit in such a short period of time.
Also people oomparing it to beer....an entire 12 oz beer is only like 3-6% (Not counting malt liquors like Belzeebuth or Dogfish 90 and 120 for example) alcohol by volume. 3% of 12 oz is a small amount of alcohol. Plus you've got well....the water in beer to help stop you from getting drunk. Most people will get full before they get drunk off beer. However a shot is more like 40%...you don't have that water to go along with the alcohol to mitigate the effects.
What I'm basically saying is is that 20 shots = a lot and Beer =!= liquor.

I've never had to explain this before so bear with me.
A fraternity is a brotherhood. People join them and become "brothers" with the people in their chapter. People in Fraternities have very close bonds, ala a brother. In the US Fraternities are based off of Greek letters and tradition because the people who founded them were educated classically. For example my Fraternity was founded in 1848, a time where classical education was huge. So founding fathers emulated Greek stuff to basically sound cool. Most Fraternities are social, rather than being an honor society for example. Honor societies are just academic really. Social Fraternities are well....social. Imagine this, a "secret" society of basically 35+ of your very best friends living and doing things together. After college this provides a lot of opportunities because people looking at applications for jobs recognize Fraternity affiliates with leadership and social skills, things that are very stressed in the Fraternity world. Also you can get a job if your potential boss is in the same Fraternity as you are. I trust the brothers in my Fraternity very much, they are very much like an adoptive family to me. I assume this is the case for many Fraternity men across the country. I hope that cleared things up because honestly that's the best I can describe it.
I drank a whole bottle of Stolichnaya once and I think I almost died. That's like, what, thirty shots? Or something? All I know is I can't measure shit anymore and my liver hurts from time to time ever since I woke up in a pool of my own vomit and piss.
wow lightweight i once drank 5 monster energies in 2 hours
I took a shot of Bicardi 151 once
151 proof, 76% alcohol. Its more fit to power a car's engine than it is to drink.
I swear I heard my liver cry a bit after that. The stuff smelled like sadness and broken dreams of alcoholics.
LOL, with 2 glasses (not shots) of pure vodka (well...."vodka" if you can call it that way )I start feeling dizzy...
Cant imagine drinking 20 shots of Tequila....
And wait, do we even know if he ate before drinking up all that shit?

I get that but why would you do this while in college
20 shots of tequila in the space of 2 hours, are you retarded?
What never did power hour?
Any like every other drinking thread it ends in the big drinkers saying how they drink liters of vodka a night and feel nothing while these kids who probably only just turned the legal drinking age in the US can only handle half a liter instead of 2 without dying. If you think being able to drink alot without dying/ending up in A&E is something to be proud of you should seriously, seriously go get your problem checked out because drinking an amount like this and considering it normal because you didn't go to hopsital over it is fucking dumb as hell.
20 shots in two hours is an awful, considering:
- Drinks that have a high % of alcohol per volume are absorbed faster, mean your BAC will increase
- Continuous consumption means that your BAC will increase far faster than the liver can process alcohol to decrease it
- The enzymes your body uses to process alcohol are generated in larger amounts during the evening, further slowing down the body's ability to process alcohol
- It's unlikely he would have had a large meal, which would help slow down the rate of absorption of alcohol in to the blood stream
Combining all those facts, and it seems easily possible for him to have raised his BAC to dangerous levels.
I mean, using the UK alcohol units, to match twenty shots of tequila in two hours, you'd have to down 10 pints of beer, which is what I think of as a heavy night's drinking...
I get that but why would you do this while in college
Because its just a college...thing.
Its an extra curricular. And they do help with academics. For my chapter you gotta have at least a 2.75 GPA to get in and 2.5 GPA to maintain an active status.
Plus you gotta log study hours every week or you get fined.
Its just a social thing people do that helps out in...life, not just a glorified mens club.

You do power hour with beer...
Anyone else hate this frat culture that's going on across universities? Drink until you kill yourself, great idea guys.
I disagree. More open slots means it's easier to get into a school.

90 percent absinthe shots are where its at :v:
combine it with marshmallow vodka and you can having a flaming marshmallow shot that just destroys you

I confirm this.
90° Absinthe is the worse shit you could ever drink. Hell it's fucking illegal in France, got to cross the Spanish border to grab some.
[editline]17th May 2013[/editline]
worse as in good if you're planning on getting utterly wasted in a short amount of time
well I mean if you drink it properly its not that bad, its not designed to be drunk straight thats for sure :v:
We had 3 shots of this at a friend's 18 yrs party. No mix, no nothing. I was pretty smashed already by the time I had those, never doing that again.
I think I started drinking whiskey like it was beer because of this night, once you've had absinthe, you've had it all and everything seems smooth.
My first night of proper drinking saw me carried home on a door and left outside my parents house by my friends. They didn't even leave a post-it.

So do you dudes all bang each other or what
So do you dudes all bang each other or what
Yeah but they wear robes and skull masks so it's all more mysterious
that's probably because europe uses a different system, in europe 0.4% = 0.04% more or less
if you had 0.4% in europe youd be dead
Yeah, it's kind of confusing, but percentage doesn't change from unit to unit. We measure blood alcohol in per mill, not per cent. One per mill = 1/10 per cent, so 4‰ equals 0.4%.
3‰ is fairly common for a heavy drinker but already quite bad. 4‰ is just beyond good and evil and usually where you have to be picked up by an ambulance. But the amount of alcohol you'd need for this is ridiculous. My guess is, that if he drank the shots as fast as they say he did and he was not used to that much liquor, his liver couldn't process the alcohol anymore and it didn't get absorbed properly or some shit like that
So do you dudes all bang each other or what
Fuck you.
My friend is in a frat and I can confirm he turned gay because of it
