The government doesn't really create very good jobs. Too much red tape prevents getting anything done and usually you get paid a lot less than you would be doing the same job in the private sector. Plus private industries create more jobs when expanding. My dad used to be a computer programmer for the government, then he was offered a job at Sun Microsystems. He said he was paid like 30% extra and ever since he moved to Oracle he has been paid more and promoted to a good, steady area.
