Harry Reid: It's too late. We are going over the fiscal cliff

This will probably spell the end of the Republican Party if they let us fall over the fiscal cliff, can't believe they started out as a Anti-Slavery Party and now some of them are wanting slavery back and they're willing to sabotage the country's economy just because of their fucking beliefs and to make the other party look bad.
We really need to put term limits on congressional positions because some of our congressmen have been in there for way too long and I think it's time we do away with both parties and completely reset the government.
EDIT:
You know, if we go into a depression because of this, many of the bastards that are in Congress right now will probably be outsted out of their offices next election, and then they'll flee the country or go into seclusion(Like Hoover did during the Depression). But I doubt we're going to get another FDR and a New Deal this time around.
Why the fuck is the House in recess right now, isn't that political suicide?
The parties literally swapped members after the 20's.

But they have to be seen to be working harder towards a deal than the Democrats. Instead we've got the Senate and the White House both in the office, while the House has just fucked off and left making it a piece of piss to blame the Republicans for all this

I offered an explanation, not an excuse :v:
The republicans that are doing this are fucking retarded for like 12 different reasons
We go off the fiscal cliff on January 1st
The Democrats take over the House and the Senate on January 3rd
They will literally be able to cut the taxes and fix all of the spending cuts before any of them even go into effect, and they'll be able to do it however they want
The Republicans have 2 choices: compromise and at least partially get their way, or hold their ground, get blamed for going over the fiscal cliff, and let democrats fix everything the way they want and look like heroes
there is literally no advantage whatsoever to them not compromising

Eh? Republicans maintained control of the House
The Republicans should give Obama everything he wants. America voted for his policies, so the GOP should give it to them, for better or worse, right or wrong. I don't agree with the policies per se, but I have gone pass the point of caring enough to put up resistance.

That would be flipping the finger off to the people that voted them into Congress, though.

Then what's the point of the separation of powers America is so different from, like Europe for example?

Because unlike the way European politics work, in America it's a game of who can fling the most shit, spend the most cash on banal crap and then be good with words about why everything is going down the sink
Also a game of hating everyone that's not in your own league and blaming problems on the people blaming others etc

Still, it's your system. So what if the president is Democrat when the lower house is Republican. Isn't that the point of check & balance I hear people yapping about?

Politics will always have atleast most of these problems though, atleast democracies/representative democracies. When you get a bunch of lawyers together in a room to argue about social policy it's standard to have deadlock.
A larger problem is that the US has legalized bribery and institutionalized it as part of the political system, and it's endemic to both sides of the aisle.
How does this work? If an agreement is made at 11:59 on Dec 31st, does it still count?
How does this work? If an agreement is made at 11:59 on Dec 31st, does it still count?
If it is signed into law at 11:59 yes
Reid means there is not enough time to get the House back in session, negotiate a deal, pass it through both chambers and sign it into law before Jan 1

Is there an archive of these comics somewhere?

That is just bonkers. How are they not dealing with this?
And if they reach an agreement at 00:01 on the 1st? It's too late?
And it's not like the fiscal cliff is a bad thing. If anything, in the long run, going over it will be good. Like, Really fucking good.
Short term, people will suffer and that sucks.

Only, you know, they won't.
Now if only you lads would raise the taxes by a few percent you'd be out of this in no time.
Will this fuck the rest of us over or will it just be shit to be in America?
an amazing example of the average american's stunning intelligence
It'd be funny if he weren't right. He is.
The 113th Congressional House of Representatives, which first convenes on January 3, 2013, shall consist of 200 Democratic Representatives, and 233 Republican Representatives. Thus, Republican control.
Democrats did maintain and strengthen control in the Senate though. Maybe that's what you were trying to be smug about.
Question, what would be a likely response from the stockmarket to this when it opens in 2013?
Will this fuck the rest of us over or will it just be shit to be in America?
Eventually it will fuck everyone over, in particular nations highly dependent on export to the states.
Will this fuck the rest of us over or will it just be shit to be in America?
In the short term, things will get more expensive, but really, things won't be that bad.
Like, this will make it so revenue passes spending.
As a small business owner in the UK, should i brace for impact?
