I think it's high time for another civil war
I don't know why you'd even think utterly destroying your own countries infrastructure with the added expense of countless lives over fiscal policy would even register as a smart, sane and well thought out idea. Keep it to yourself next time.
So someone help me out here. One a scale from 1-10, how actually fucked are we?
this fiscal cliff shit is bad but not catastrophic i'd say 4

However a great man once said "If this country should fall apart, it would not be by foreign influence, but by america itself" - Abe Lincoln [editline]28th December 2012[/editline] Something like that. I'm quoting from memory
Infographic about what will happen on Jan 1 [t]http://www.aljazeera.com/mritems/Images/2012/12/20/201212207958455580_8.jpg[/t]
Well that increase in dividend taxes isn't going to do a lot of good for me, what will be left for me after 2 coasts strip it with taxes? Nothing.
I think it's high time for another civil war
The people of the United States have seen enough war I think.
So someone help me out here. One a scale from 1-10, how actually fucked are we?
Well, estimates seem to state it would put the U.S. economy back to 2008 levels. So yeah, pretty catastrophic. The fact that both Republicans and Democrats are willing to push us over the cliff is pretty insane.

Figures we go over the cliff on my birthday.
Figures we go over the cliff on my birthday.
Happy birthday! :v:
I think it's high time for another civil war
Another? We southerners have been biding our time and waiting for the yankees to let down their guard. The war never ended.

What I find funny is that people are automatically blaming the Republicans, when it was the fault of congress in general. Republicans propose something? Democrats vote it down. Democrats propose something? Republicans vote it down. Maybe we should ditch both parties?
Congress, address the fiscal cliff issue and implement a solution? No, they get paid the big bucks to sit here and fuck the country over, but hey, as long as they still get to embezzle our tax dollars for their private jet's private jet, who cares about the state of the country right? Congress should only make federal minimum wage, that might kick them in the ass the right way to make them actually care about anyone except the rich.

Congress should actually make the mean income level for Americans. Would inspire them to actually work towards uplifting them.
Congress should actually make the mean income level for Americans. We're their employers.
Figures we go over the cliff on my birthday.
I don't want to spoil anything, but I know what Congress got you for your b-day!
Congress should actually make the mean income level for Americans. Make it so they have to serve a number of years before they even get one.
While this is a good idea, it kind of greatly encourages bribery. They should get away with the instant pensions though. Make it so they have to serve a number of years before they even get one.
The amount of money required to get into congress means that the people who get in are absolutely loaded in the first place. They'd be just as open to bribes with minimum wage as they are with their current salaries, and their current salaries are way too high. If you are loaded enough to make it into congress, money really isn't an issue. I'd argue that they should recieve the mean wage at best, or ideally minimum / no wage. Congress should be serving the country and people, not a career move. Also, who needs bribery when there's the joys of lobbying? :v:
Politicians in general should not be above the American people in income. We don't work for them, they work for us. People need a wake-up call, and this is sadly the best way. [sp]RUN THIS SHIT INTO THE GROUND[/sp]
Moving to Canada is looking like a better idea every day.
Moving to Canada is looking like a better idea every day.
And thus the cycle of apathy continues. Nothing is going to change if people keep on moving from one place to another to ignore the problems.
And thus the cycle of apathy continues. Nothing is going to change if people keep on moving from one place to another to ignore the problems.
It's not apathy, it's just that there's literally NOTHING anybody can really do about this :\
Its against the law to do anything about it.
I'm gonna hate the rest of my life living in America. And sadly, there is no way for me to get to Canada. God damn you US.
I feel retarded, but can someone explain simply what the fiscal cliff is and the consequences of going over it? What I've read makes it look like there's a short term loss and a long term benefit to lowering the debt deficit.
I feel retarded, but can someone explain simply what the fiscal cliff is and the consequences of going over it? What I've read makes it look like there's a short term loss and a long term benefit to lowering the debt deficit.
The "cliff" is a bunch of spending cuts and tax increases that will automatically come into effect unless the folks in charge manage to agree on a different solution. It's an emergency step towards remedying the rampant budget deficit. The result will be that everybody will end up with less money in their pocket. Any measures that may help the deficit will be good in the long run, but in the short run it may cause recession.
