Does that mean chrome doesn't have to start up like 10 processes now?
well i installed it and it deleted all of my extensions including like 30 userscripts thanks
Didn't do that for me. It can take a few minutes for Chrome to sync up with the settings you have saved to your account.
well i installed it and it deleted all of my extensions including like 30 userscripts thanks
Mine are still fine. Don't know why yours would have been deleted.
Now if only EA could get off their asses and make a battelog x64 plugin.
So pretty much sounds like the 64 bit version isn't ready to be installed unless you want to constantly be fixing shit in it.. Too bad. is it really that hard to give support for a 64x version?
The new rendering is the blurrier one. I'm leaving it on though I'm sure it will be fine. Old: New:
I like my sharp letters thank you very much.
Font rendering looked just fine to me, no, it looked better. I've been using it since it first entered beta, and it was great. Give it a few more hours, and you'll love it as well. :)
Now if only EA could get off their asses and make a battelog x64 plugin.
Same for Valve and Steam. Had to format and install steam again for it to run fast again.
Same for Valve and Steam. Had to format and install steam again for it to run fast again.
Making a 64 bit version is not going to magically make Steam run noticeably faster.
Does that mean chrome doesn't have to start up like 10 processes now?
That's part of the core design of Chrome as explained in the announcement web comic
No and there's a reason chrome does this, so if any one thing (a tab or extension) crashes or hangs, it doesn't bring down your whole browser.
Last i used it, there was a dozen processes and a Java crash took down the whole browser. It either needs to be made into one process to save space, or needs much more work for the multiprocess system to be functional.
I installed it and it completely broke everything. I just get a white empty box. Not even uninstalling and reinstalling fixes it. Bravo google.

It kills the page or extension if it ever hangs so I've never run into this problem using it. [editline]Edited: [/editline]
I installed it and it completely broke everything.
Wow this just happened? Linux distros have had 64-bit Chrome for ages and ages, I just assumed Windows had a 64 bit version too :v:
Many windows programs are still 32 bit
font kerning looks like shit on high-dpi screens if you turn directwrite on though
yep, just noticed that, the kerning is awful holy crap [editline]27th August 2014[/editline] Facepunch looks pretty nice now though! I like that smoothness.
The font looks exactly the same for me in the 64bit version and i havent changed anything. Anyways here is me hoping that this will solve my youtube page crashes.
why is this fuzz? Palemoon has 64bit build for ages ...
Many windows programs are still 32 bit
I know, but I don't quite understand why. It's not like Linux computers started using x86_64 processors any sooner than Windows computers. It mystifies me that modern games are still 32 bit when no processor from the 32 bit era could pheasibly run it anyways. [editline]26th August 2014[/editline] Oh wait, I just remembered that almost all versions of XP commonly used are 32 bit. That explains, well, everything.
So how do I know if it's working? I installed it and stuff but nothing looks different. There was like nothing that could tell me if I successfully did it or not.
Finally 64bit Chrome!
So how do I know if it's working? I installed it and stuff but nothing looks different. There was like nothing that could tell me if I successfully did it or not.
Open task manager and check if it says (32-bit).

Keeping the new font thing on breaks Chinese character display... I had to turn it off to actually see Chinese again.
No and there's a reason chrome does this, so if any one thing (a tab or extension) crashes or hangs, it doesn't bring down your whole browser.
Makes it such a resource hog though.
That's weird, I uninstalled my old Google Chrome and installed the new one but I don't see the 64-bit part
That's the same version number I have from just having my current Chrome version update. 37.0.XXXX.XX seems to be the current stable build, whereas 38.0.XXXX.XX is the dev build, according to the Chrome releases blog. I'm not sure if the x64 optimization carries over to the stable version, but Chrome does appear to be running faster for me since updating to 37.0.2062.94, although that might just be placebo effect and/or unrelated.
I have seldom ever had Chrome completely crash. It kills the page or extension if it ever hangs so I've never run into this problem using it.
Just happened to me a week ago. The whole thing closed.
Chrome was still 32bit for mostly the same reasons Firefox was (They share the same crash reporter too, which only just got fixed to work in 64bit). The main reason there wasn't much of a push was because it was a fair bit of work (e.g. Firefox wasn't 64bit pointer safe for a long time) for not many rewards (Increased address space was it really, and some things run slower) With Windows 8 (Possibly 8.1) Microsoft added new security features that require a 64bit executable though, finally giving an actual improvement to going 64bit.
Steam uses it for years afaik
Yep, Firefox and IE too, it's a huge improvement over GDI.
yep, just noticed that, the kerning is awful holy crap [editline]27th August 2014[/editline] Facepunch looks pretty nice now though! I like that smoothness.
If you're actually using DirectWrite (The preference is named oddly, enabling it disables it, etc.) then the reason kerning looks odd is that it's actually accurate for once, GDI can't position a character on anything other than an integer pixel boundary, while DirectWrite doesn't give a crap and will put it anywhere it wants. That's why people complain that it's blurrier, the characters are closer together, etc. Because they've always supposed to be like that, GDI was just so bad at text rendering that people got used to it and thought it was normal.
they also added the ability to highlight text from a touch screen
Oh god its so much quicker I love you google.
