Or at least not act on it while on the job.
look at the case of R v Blaue, she died because of her beliefs

The real moral of the story is that people that let their own opinions and beliefs influence their work in the police, should not be in the police. The concept of the police and justice system is that they're raised above beliefs and opinions - they only answer to the law. This guard let her beliefs influence her decision, and that means that she shouldn't be a part of that system. And how do you deduct from this article that the entire police-force would never do what's best for you? This wasn't the work of the police, its concepts or rules, it was the work of a single person with some strong beliefs.

The police aren't supposed to be anyone's friend, they're supposed to uphold the law.
[del]fuk the police xxDDD[/del] rape the police (and deny them emergency contraception based on religious beliefs)
Fixed that for you.

They have discretion, that's why sometimes they don't give people tickets and just let them off with a warning.
In this case even though she came to them a victim of rape, they ran her name to see if they could arrest her, which they did. So somehow a rape victim winds up in jail before the end of the day while the rapist is still out on the streets. Then the jail employee pulls her "it's against my religion" crap.
So you could say this victim only got screwed once by the rapist, but twice by the criminal justice system. The arrest was over a failure to appear and failure to pay a fine, they couldn't let that wait a day or two? She's going to be in contact with the cops for her rape case so it's not like she's hiding from them.
~religion~
Such a great thing
