112 is the only dutch emergency number.
same for germany
To be honest i think using 911 worldwide would be a good thing. Most people outside of the US know it from movies.
I was not aware of this
I don't know a single person here in the US that doesn't know our 911 emergency number. Not one. Most children even know it.
Yes, we know our own one too. Congratulations on remembering a 3 digit number, we're all very impressed. This is the European number, which also works in the UK. It's just redundant when we already have 999, though it's useful to know 112 for EU countries. I don't know how people don't know 112, though. It's plastered on EVERY hotel room in the EU [editline]11th February 2012[/editline]
To be honest i think using 911 worldwide would be a good thing. 911 is really cool. Even if you dial 911 and have a other set of numbers to follow before or after such as. 591911 5691145 it still directs you to 911.

Pretty sure 911 redirects to 112 in most of EU anyway.
To be honest i think using 911 worldwide would be a good thing. Most people outside of the US know it from movies.
I think if you call 911 in the UK it works the same as 999 Most countries probably support 911, 112 and any other number you could possibly try to use
I thought it was 123
It's a good system. The 911 number is drilled into children's heads starting in school. Within the first year, most american kids will have seen at least one convention where the local fire department does a bunch of safety teachings and they commonly do it again each year, so that by elementary school nearly every child will know 911 and "Stop, drop, and roll" Does the UK do something like that?
No, we do: "open the door, get on the floor, everybody walk the dinosaur" It is much more effective in emergency situations than stop drop and roll, since performing the act of walking the dinosaur has flame retardant properties. It just so happens that opening the door and getting on the floor prior to this makes it more effective.
quite good
Good to see that compressions only is practiced in other places besides the US, because you would end up fucking peoples chances over by stopping compressions and dicking around with blowing air into them wrongly if you were not trained, or not a first responder. (a lot of people forget to manage the airway who are untrained/non-EMS/non-Medical)
So now we have 999, 111, 112? God damn why do we need so many. Why don't we just make phones where you scream HELP ME into them?
I thought it was 123
Isn't that the talking clock?
I figured that out one time. It was scary.
Our neighbors number always had a 9121 in it, and we accidentally called the cops a few times accidentally because we would accidentally punch in the extra 1 per-maturely. The cops here are really chill so they didn't care. My friend also was dicking around and she called 911561(or some shit) for fun. I told her that will re-route in 911, and she flipped shit and hung up. A cop came by an hour later asking if we called 911. We were 9.
So now we have 999, 111, 112? God damn why do we need so many. Why don't we just make phones where you scream HELP ME into them?
Didn't know about 111, that's kind of cool
So now we have 999, 111, 112? God damn why do we need so many. Why don't we just make phones where you scream HELP ME into them?
Because you can imagine the number of false positives it will detect, and how many operators will have to listen to your phone for a minute while you walk around with your phone rustling in your pocket. If you don't like the others, then don't use them....why does it matter that they exist? That's as stupid as saying "damn why are there so many websites in the world that I don't need to acknowledge or ever use but their existence disgruntles me"
My friend also was dicking around and she called 911561(or some shit) for fun. I told her that will re-route in 911, and she flipped shit and hung up. The UK also has the non-emergency 101 to report anti-social behavior, minor traffic accidents, suspected drug use, etc
Everyone here knows of the 999 emergency number which will only work here, but not of the 112 which works in most of Europe.
As far as I am aware, 999 actually works in most of Europe, as does 911. They're pretty much all universal, though I use 112 out of preference.
The UK also has the non-emergency 101 to report anti-social behavior, minor traffic accidents, suspected drug use, etc
Oh yeah I hope they fold that into 111 when it launches, shit could get confusing
We have this, people still didn't know:
Ooooh which one?
The last three digits in my home phone number are 911, so when I tried calling my house from a pay phone at a restaurant when I was little, things did not go over well.
112 in america redirects to 911 if you're on a mobile network
I wasn't even that such a thing existed.
The UK also has the non-emergency 101 to report anti-social behavior, minor traffic accidents, suspected drug use, etc
We have the same thing here in the U.S., 311, but...
to report anti-social behavior
The fuck does that mean?
I don't see why people don't know, I mean, I know it's 911 in the US and 999 in the UK, and that all of them work in the EU and will redirect you to 112. [editline]11th February 2012[/editline]
We have the same thing here in the U.S., 311, but... The fuck does that mean?
Anything from neighbors having music on too loud to kids thrashing shit I'd imagine.
Well, no-one I know has ever been taught about 112, so can you really blame the 86% who weren't informed? Hell, i've never heard of it until just now. [editline]11th February 2012[/editline]
The fuck does that mean?
Behaviour of the anti-social kind
Australia has 000.
tbh, I didn't know it.
Sounds like something fox news would come up with.
