Around 86% of Britions do not know of the 112 emergency number

I only knew it because I noticed it can be typed into my mobile despite the keys being locked, like 999 can.
As an Australian, I was aware of 112 and 911 over a year ago because my old phone, when locked, would only allow you to type and call emergency numbers.
000, 112, and 911. Accidentally called one once, too. I felt bad.
We can also use 112 I think if you're on a mobile network or something, but like the UK I don't think it's mentioned often.
I'm pretty sure even 911 directs you to 000 because of all the little Americanised kiddies calling 911 after watching too much Sesame Street
This isn't the same as 911 is it? I'm fairly sure almost everyone knows our equivilent of that, 999. So 112 is a Europe wide emergancy number?
It's so catchy. I sometimes forget triple zero over 911.
The question is, how would they know?
It's not like they would gather around for a cup of tea and ponder what would the emergency number be in Europe.
- Bob, my good fellow, do you happen to know the emergency phone number used in Europe?
- Why, now that you mention it, Harold, I certainly do not! What might it be one may ask?
- It's 1-1-2!
SMASHING!
I think 112 is one of those numbers I know is important, but I've never bothered to check what it does.
Most modern mobile phones like Android and iOS got a Emergency button on the lockscreen
I've never heard of 112 before?? I would remember something as important as that but I've never been told about it.
Oh cool, I thought 112 was only for Finland.
And let me tell you, they crammed that number into my head so many times in school, I will NEVER forget it. It's also really simple to say in finnish.
I think if you call 911 in the UK it works the same as 999
Most countries probably support 911, 112 and any other number you could possibly try to use
Even if you smash the keys a few times and call it re-directs, found out the fun way as a little kid.
Completely untrue, 000 still goes to the Telstra emergency exchange for your state, even if called from a mobile.
So does 911, 111, 112 and 999.
All these numbers are redirected to 112.
The only downside from calling 000 on your mobile phones is that you must tell them your address, compared to calling from a landline, where they know it, they only have to verify it.
They can find your position from the cellphone towers you're connected to right?
They can find your position from the cellphone towers you're connected to right?
It's very unspecific. They get some information like what towers the callers are connected to, but other than that it either takes much time to "work" out the location or you must tell them.
Newer services like e911 allow emergency services to activate and use the gps in a mobile phone.
It's just easier to have a number like 911 or 000, I'm Australian and I even know the US's 911.
Heck, 911 even redirects to 000.
edit; dammit doggun
We've got three emergency numbers in Norway, though all of them redirects you to the same unit.
110 for fire
112 for police
113 for ambulance
I've known these numbers since kindergarden, and children pretty much know it from there.
Something that has always foxed me. When you dial 999 in america, Or 911 in britain. What happens?
Too scared to find out myself.
I don't know a single person here in the US that doesn't know our 911 emergency number. Not one. Most children even know it.
it's almost like learning your ABCs here

It gets redirected to that country's emergency services.
Well britons went extinct around 11th century so they doesn't even know what phones are
I don't know a single person here in the US that doesn't know our 911 emergency number. Not one. Most children even know it.
You said "a single person" but then you said "most"???
