I agree, I just hope they don't start handing the guy Nobel Peace prizes before anything has been accomplished *cough*Obama*cough*
Holy shit
Wait
Did this guy just advocate, to an extent, economic socialism?
I never thought I'd see the day.
Not quite exactly, we don't have to go to such an extreme to reduce the income gap, I'm perfectly fine with people owning land and being rich.
Damn I wish I was rich

you could own everything, hell, the entire world. but as he already said, if then you dont use those things in such a way that people dont die or suffer then you are no longer entitled to them. On the other hand private property is a fundamental aspect of human realization and progress. With all this the church avoids both socialism and extreme individualism.
if I find (remember) the encyclica which states this; I will copypaste it here.
yo sorry for writing typos im doing this thru virtual keyboard. Long story involving my father and a ps2 socket.

Is he even eligible for the nobel peace prize?
Is he even eligible for the nobel peace prize?
The leader of the most powerful nation was handed a nobel...so why not him?
Im pretty sure he can be given the Nobel

Because, despite all the dogma and stuff, his job technically only is to make peace in the world.
Sorta how medics in the military (at least in the US) don't get medals for saving lives - it's their job.
Is he even eligible for the nobel peace prize?
I honestly have no idea.
pope fraaaaaaaank
There's no way for such a company to be created. Venture capitalism doesn't work without profit, company growth doesn't work without profit, and no company is going to expand into another industry without the promise of profits. The only way for this to ever exist is for it to be socialized, and that wouldn't exactly be a "business".
Fun fact, the United States has done more in market shaping and creation than most venture capitalists have in the last 70 years. Internet is just one gold mine.
Some people are pulling in over 12 million a year while their employees are making under 40k.
Walmart is a classic example of this.
Being able to retire at 60 used to be a common thing, now the lower class is expected to work until they're 80.
Precisely.
A handful of Walmart CEOs are raking in over 23 Million a year. Why can't they help out the employees that helped them get to that point?
It's already been shown that Walmart could easily increase wages by 50% without effecting retail prices if they simply didn't just care about getting richer every year and would stop re-investing a big chunk of money into their own stocks every year.
tl:dr:
I'm no socialist...but fuck these corporations for being greedy enough to offer little to no healthcare and piss poor wages in this economy.
I think it'd be good if the government instituted a wealth ceiling for people, they can base it on that person's needs, and that person can appeal to the government to raise it if he can give them a convincing case as to why he needs to have that money.
People would just find other ways to store money
This is also just a bad idea but that's already been said

Why rate me dumb and not tell me why? All I'm saying is some people are not going to like this new direction and most likely are going to throw dirt in his face. I like this guy and if it seemed like I was mocking him, then my bad.
If someone said a few years ago that facepunch will someday love the pope and hate obama they would have been called crazy.

Boy have times changed.

Hating Obama is pretty simple-minded though. Since it's actually the people around him that are fucking with us. He's only slightly more useful than a constitutonal monarchy.

Makes sense because as time passes, the less mature ones get culled.

I don't even get why people hate Obama.
The president is mostly for decoration in the USA. By the end of the century he'll be as symbolic as our monarchy.
When I first read this I thought it said New Tranny and i was like wtf

liking the pope for saying the same hypocritical things jesuits have said for centuries isnt really maturing is it
liking the pope for saying the same hypocritical things jesuits have said for centuries isnt really maturing is it
Listening to the espoused message rather than hating entirely because of the Pope's connection to Christianity is maturing.
not really, softening up on the vatican isnt a sign of maturity imo
anti-catholic activists wouldnt be more mature by saying "ok maybe the catholic church isn't that bad!"

sorta. the office itself doesn't have much power, the power comes through appointing the cabinet mostly. the executive has a lot of say in how laws are enforced, or the priorities for enforcement. a president could significantly erode the drug war, for example, by appointing someone to the department of justice who makes enforcement of drug crime the lowest priority for prosecutors.
he can't change the law, but he can change enforcement.

The fact that he can order troops to anywhere these days without a declaration of war from Congress is a sign that it's just the opposite of what you say.
The US President has to jump through hoops to get domestic policy done but if he wants people spied on or dead outside the country he only has to say the word.
yes give all your money away because we say so you evil greedy bastards
