Then again, there's the Lazarus extension, but is that even available on Firefox?
Yeah, it is. I prefer Firefox and honestly even if they were to be dicks and change the current user specified search engine I could always change it back. I've used both Chrome and Firefox and to this day I still prefer Firefox, even if Chrome has alternatives to the addons I use (NoScript is a godsend). Firefox has never once crashed on me, even with over 100+ tabs open. And even if it were to crash, I could restore every tab I lost on launch. Tab Isolation seems like a nifty feature but it's not worth switching over to Chrome and dealing with how much of a ram hog it is.
updated, nothing has changed
updated, nothing has changed
it only affects new installs of firefox that's kind of the only time "defaults" are used
yeah but everyone was freaking out about it
It's much more relieving if just a single tab crashes or a small subset does in some instances, as it doesn't bring down literally the entire browser with it in Chrome and Chromium. You'd need to be pushing it pretty hard with RAM alone to get Chrome to die all at once, either through Windows bitching about low RAM available (in which case it'll sometimes kill a game I'm playing and/or all of Chrome), or some other crazy method. I sure as hell would be pissed if I lost work that I had going on in another tab because something in one tab brought the whole browser down, as is the case with Firefox today still, for sure. Then again, there's the Lazarus extension, but is that even available on Firefox?
I find task isolation to be a backwards approach. You're trying to lessen the effects of crashing, instead of avoiding crashing in the first place. When it gets added to firefox, I'll certainly be disabling it. The only time firefox crashes is running out of memory (the last time that happened was from having 20 something YouTube players open), or from some crap plugin like flash (which luckily I only have to use for a couple of sites nowadays). And when it does, session restore kicks in and it restarts after a few seconds saving most stuff. The task isolation certainly seems beneficial if you're constantly running out of memory, but then again, if it didn't have task isolation it wouldn't be using as much memory in the first place.
But will it come with the ask toolbar???
How the fuck does yahoo have all this money to keep buying shit??!
Thank goodness I'm using a hideously outdated version of Firefox (28.0) so I don't have to deal with this mess.
"Why do people think I'm stupid for sailing in a ship full of holes?!"
Not as bad as me. I used XP 2002 until 2014.
I know this is probably a dumb question, but are there any addons or the like that changes Firefox's layout to Chrome's? I'd make the switch but Chrome's layout works a lot better for me.
All the more reason not to get the new version, then.

I was very disappointed with it too out of the box, but after some tweaking I prefer it
I don't know why people are so opposed to other search engines than Google, really.
because they mostly objectively suck bing subjectively if you want to get techniqual
Yahoo is used only by old people and an oddly large number of people in japan but mainly old people
Yahoo Japan still has Geocities.
I realize this but the update hasn't dropped yet and we don't know what all they're going to do with it. I don't actually believe they're going to fuck anything up but I'm still allowed to be apprehensive!
You could have a little more faith in them. Even the more controversial changes they've made have either had a neutral effect or overall a good effect in the long run. Though I still think making Firefox look more like Chrome was a retarded choice and I'm glad that Firefox's customizability allows people to change it back. (Most specifically the shitty angled tabs Chrome has. I don't get the appeal of those.)
I don't know why people are so opposed to other search engines than Google, really.
The biggest issue is most other search engines simply aren't as good as Google. I stopped using Yahoo's search long ago. Though my main email is still with them.
Then again, there's the Lazarus extension, but is that even available on Firefox?
I haven't used it on either browser so I dunno if it's the same but is this what you're talking about?
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fxchrome
oh fuck yes, thank you so much
I used to use firefox, then I switched to chrome, and I havent looked back.
If Firefox had a flawless sync system using my google account I'd probably switch, I use three different computers and having everything connected is what I need. And no, I don't care about MUH PRIVACY all that much, if I need to do something private there are other ways.
If Firefox had a flawless sync system using my google account I'd probably switch
Why would Mozilla run their sync accounts off their competitor's service?
It reports your browsing history and usage practices back to google anonymously even when you're not logged in. There are some projects that get rid of chrome's tracking, for example SRWare Iron.
Or you could use Chromium, not log in to your account, and disable the network diagnostic/online spell check/phishing protection/prediction service features. (And change the search engine)
Just switch to Pale Moon guys.
Thank goodness I'm using a hideously outdated version of Firefox (28.0) so I don't have to deal with this mess. EDIT: Apparently using outdated software here makes you a black sheep even if you know what you're doing.
I'm still using FF 28.0 too. I haven't upgraded past that because the interface is fucking awful... it 'works' overall, but there are so many tiny little things that I do instinctively in ALL the past versions that they've ruined. Like double clicking anywhere in the blank space along the tab row to open a new tab... nope, can't even do that any more. It's a cumulative effect of small changes like this combined with an ugly as sin looking new layout that have kept me from upgrading yet. Hmm, wonder if anyone's made some kind of mod to change the interface back. Amazed at how much Chrome has taken over too, never expected it honestly.
Hmm, wonder if anyone's made some kind of mod to change the interface back.
I'm not sure it's exactly what you're talking about but you might check out this. I use that to fix the angled tab garbage they updated to.
Welp, it was fun while it lasted; guess I'm switching back to Chrome, now.
Welp, it was fun while it lasted; guess I'm switching back to Chrome, now.
Over a change that you can fix with literally two clicks? All they're doing is switching Yahoo for Google as the default search engine. They're not preventing you from switching it back.
Welp, it was fun while it lasted; guess I'm switching back to Chrome, now.
You'd think doing this was easier than switching browsers:
Chrome still has no tree style tabs, no chance of me using it until then
Or you could use Chromium, not log in to your account, and disable the network diagnostic/online spell check/phishing protection/prediction service features. (And change the search engine)
You might as well just use firefox at that point. Firefox is just as fast, if not faster than chrome right now.
