I dont know about you guys but Waterfox > Firefox any day. I haven't started this computer in 8 months and when I made the switch the difference was waay more than noticeable.
I'm still using FF 28.0 too. I haven't upgraded past that because the interface is fucking awful... it 'works' overall, but there are so many tiny little things that I do instinctively in ALL the past versions that they've ruined. Like double clicking anywhere in the blank space along the tab row to open a new tab... nope, can't even do that any more. It's a cumulative effect of small changes like this combined with an ugly as sin looking new layout that have kept me from upgrading yet. Hmm, wonder if anyone's made some kind of mod to change the interface back. Amazed at how much Chrome has taken over too, never expected it honestly.
You mean you don't middle-click to open and close tabs?? Next you'll tell me people use the context menu to open links in new tabs.
You mean you don't middle-click to open and close tabs?? Next you'll tell me people use the context menu to open links in new tabs.
I use context menu because my right mouse button is glitchy and sometimes opens 2-3 tabs at once
I would change over to firefox if it could connect to my phone/ipad/other computer and let me keep browsing/share bookmarks and had incognito mode.
You mean you don't middle-click to open and close tabs?? Next you'll tell me people use the context menu to open links in new tabs.
I don't have a scrollwheel nor a middle click [sp]you can use ctrl click though if anybody even CARES about that[/sp]
I would change over to firefox if it could connect to my phone/ipad/other computer and let me keep browsing/share bookmarks and had incognito mode.
You click the menu thing, "new private window". plus Mozilla's synch stuff to share browsing bookmarks n shit.
Not as bad as me. I used XP 2002 until 2014.
lol pentium still runs Windows XP and has a deep seated hate for any modern OS, you aint the worst.
The biggest issue is most other search engines simply aren't as good as Google. I stopped using Yahoo's search long ago. Though my main email is still with them.
I mostly use Google, but I've honestly never gotten unsatisfactory or much worse results from Bing - I never used Yahoo, but they're using the same engine, so results should be similar. Google can search by picture, which is nice, but totally subjectively I've never had a problem with Bing results-wise. I'm kinda getting annoyed with Google in general, though, I think they've made some stupid choice. I can see the idea of using one google account for both, email, drive, youtube etc., but what if I actually want to use my work email for drive/email and my other google account just for YouTube? Right now I have to change between them constantly, which is just annoying. It defaults to my non-work account simply because it's set up with Google+ - something I never use. This isn't related to Google Search, but their overall track record the last few years is kinda driving me toward alternatives.
Welp, it was fun while it lasted; guess I'm switching back to Chrome, now.
...
Yahoo is used only by old people and an oddly large number of people in japan but mainly old people
Isn't Japan mostly full of old people anyway?
How the fuck does yahoo have all this money to keep buying shit??!
well you see, a long long time ago, back when yahoo was still relevant, they got a stake in this tiny chinese company called alibaba...
i wish i didnt have to use a web browser at all anymore
It should be just as easy to switch back to Google as it is to currently switch to Yahoo (or Bing etc). If its not I bet you someone will fork firefox to make it possible.
There are already a few forks that are pretty good. I'm currently on Pale Moon because that runs faster, but if you want the new interface you can use e.g. Waterfox which is basically an optimized x64 version of the default branch (so all addons are compatible instead of just most). Waterfox doesn't seem to have Firefox Sync though.
Jokes on everyone, I use duckduckgo
If you give two shits about your privacy, then you shouldn't be using chrome because it reports literally everything you do back to google. Also, chrome is still fuckin horrendous with memory management. BTW, firefox caught up and passed chrome in pretty much all benchmarks last year.
I've been using Chrome for years now, but the amount of memory/CPU it eats up has genuinely made me think about swapping to Firefox. Like, on my main PC it's not too bad unless I'm playing games, but on this laptop it's kinda awful Thanks for this post, I may go ahead since it's basically just laziness and dislike of change that's stopped me from going ahead
Am I really the only one who sees this as a good thing? Securing 5 years of funding can only be a good thing for Mozilla, and they're almost certainly getting huge load of cash considering they dumped Google for this. As for all the doomsayers in this thread, do you people literally lack a brain? Holy shit my head hurts just from reading these posts. If you know what the phrase "search engine" means, then you're clearly not in the intended target audience to be using the default search engine. Not to mention that this is only meant for fresh installs of Firefox, if you already have a user profile set up it obviously won't fuck with your search settings.
Holy shit guys, overreact much? You can still change the default search engine back to google.
It's not default if you switch it
He has a fair point, making it default takes two more clicks on top of the two. Darn. Chrome it is.
Yahoo is used only by old people and an oddly large number of people in japan but mainly old people
Chrome doesn't fucking work on my PC so it's forced upon me. And this is fucking irritating.
it's forced upon me. And this is fucking irritating.
It's like half the people in this thread can't read and don't even have a basic understanding of how Firefox works. If you already have Firefox installed this will do literally nothing. It only affects new installations. And to top it off it's a change that literally takes two clicks to fix if you don't like it anyways. It's absolutely hilarious to see people complaining about this change or even acting like it's the end of the world and will make them switch browsers, lol.
