I do
Why. It's a TV.
Also I don't appreciate being called tech illiterate. I'm far from it, and just because I don't feel the need to modify every aspect of my mobile phone doesn't mean otherwise. I build my own computers and work at Radioshack for chrissake.

Radioshack oh wow, the elite of tech enthusiasts. Sorry for disturbing you!
I find that stock firmwares are slow and sluggish, and provide too many ads and bullshit for something you just bought.
where the fuck is the source that isn't some guy's paranoid ramblings?
also all of this is only happening in the USA, so perhaps it's not android but the carriers at fault?
Uh, this is P3Droid, the most influential ROM developer next to the guys at Cyanogen.

Google TV, running off a heavily modified Android counters your argument.
When I purchase hardware, no matter what it is, if I have the technical knowledge to modify something, I should be able to. I'm not breaking the law, I'm not stealing anything, I'm not pirating software, I'm not doing anything to harm the carrier or manufacturer, I doubt HTC is crying if I remove their Sense UI from my phone, although I doubt I can say the same for Motorola since they insist on forcing MotoBlur on every device they make despite hundreds of thousands of consumers telling them "This sucks".
When it comes to tethering, my contract says that I have unlimited data, with that data I firmly believe that I may do whatever I want with that data, use it up on a smartphone or on a laptop? Does it really matter? No. The 3-5GB of mobile bandwidth may be a bit more expensive but for christ's sake, I get 30TB of bandwidth each month on a VPS I pay $23 for. They're making profit unless you're using 1TB+ of bandwidth, and even then they're still making a profit probably.

I suppose I should take everything garry says as gospel too by that logic

Ads on what. Phones? The only advertisements I ever see on my phone (HTC Droid Eris) are when I go to websites.
Also working for Radioshack is better than working for some shit company like Best Buy or Circuit City pre-bankruptcy. At least we know our shit. The store I work at still stocks all the shit Radioshack used to be known for. i.e. individual parts and pieces for circuit boards and stuff.
