I am a little tired of earth. I'd do it if I had cancer.
After tying up any loose ends and fulfilling as much of my life as possible, I would go. I'd have lived my life, now it'd be time for me to start something greater than I can comprehend.
Sure, you would be remembered in history for a long time, and you get to go to space. But is it worth your life?
Yes.
I personally would be honored to be able to go to Mars. Think about it, you'd quite possibly end up having land masses named after you. Not really eligable though.
Well, it's thousand times better to go on Mars than sitting on earth and working for rest of your life.
I'd do it. That would be so bad ass to live on another planet.
i'm fairly certain you'd still be doing work
It'll be for the better goal. Perhaps such research on an different planet would further ourselves to teraform and develop better technology for space.

I wanna go up there. I'll go to the largest open stretch of martian land and start carving 'Earth Sucks' for the rest of my life.
Send Prisoners.
Earth can takes this atmosphere and shove it. [editline]31st October 2010[/editline] Hell, I think I'd go just to see the sunrise on another planet.
Send Prisoners.
We don't want 2 Australia's.
Pretty cool actually.
If I could give you two ratings I'd give you an agree.
As long as there was a powerful laptop, a TV with satellite content, internet with a low ping of 100 or lower on a game server, movies on Blu-Ray, DVD, etc, good food, all of the video games in the world and communications to anyone I want, I'm it.
Well, it's thousand times better to go on Mars than sitting on earth and working for rest of your life.
Still, there is tons of stuff you will miss. You will never see your wife or kids in person EVER again, you'll probably never see your grand kids. And your kids would have to live without a father. There are so many other things.
Sounds interesting! I'd totally go, but I already have a goal to pursue. And I'd miss the Internet way too much.
Who the hell knows what it's gonna be like in 2030, but good luck with all that. [editline]31st October 2010[/editline]
Still, there is tons of stuff you will miss. ITT nerds wanna go to Mars because they have no life
Glad I joined the Navy now. Seriously, they get a bunch of astronauts from the navy.

I want to go just so I can be the first to have sex in space, then my kid would be the first human born in space. :D
So giving up life on Earth for a life on a barren planet with innumerable difficulties? Nah, no thank you. You only live once, you might be world famous, but when you're dead you're still dead, famous or not.
It's also a once in a lifetime experience to be the first humans to Colonize Mars. No one can say you didn't live life.
It's also a once in a lifetime experience to be the first humans to Colonize Mars. No one can say you didn't live life.
Dunno, depends on what you classify as living life. It would be a very harsh and hostile environment, not much time for fun and games especially at the start. If you put the same amount of effort that you'd need to survive a life on Mars here on Earth in a job/education and probably end up rich or at least in middle-high class.
Any facepuncher is a suitable candidate, place a room with snacks, a computer, internet and no sunlight and nobody here would notice the difference. EDIT: Not entirely true, they would notice the increased ping on team fortress.
Most of us here still think girls have cooties, so the entire kids and wife part isn't important.
So I guess the first years in space would be all exciting, but then the regret would hit you like a train.
On mars with a couple of people...or with friends and family on Earth... As much as I love space, a one way ticket to Mar's just isn't a great idea.
I would seriously do it, I don't have much of a social life.

Without them, the United States wouldn't have existed. There's always people out there that want to make something out for themselves or just want to start out new.

The only reason I'd do something like this is if there was some valuable resource on Mars and I could become absurdly rich, but even if there was it wouldn't be like with the pioneers of the New World because Earth governments aren't going to let their colonists go private.
