As a man of science and someone who intends to actually become a scientist one day: you're wrong. Your opinion is wrong. There's nothing acceptable about sacrificing people for scientific knowledge. If they're dying anyway, sure, study them, but KILLING people outright to learn stuff is unacceptable.
What if they're willing to sacrifice themselves for science?
I'm sorry but... it's "per se". It's latin, meaning "through itself". It peturbs the shit out of me when people say "per say". cheers
perturbs
I'd do it if I was a bit older and had the propper skill
I'd do it if I was a bit older and had the propper skilll
Well good for you it's not going to be ready until 2030. You got 20 years.
Too much I haven't done on earth, fuck mars for now.
Oh shit, the next Fallout game should totally be set on Mars. Where there's no nuclear war ruins but the base is falling to pieces due to the lack of shuttles from Earth and stuff. That'd be sweeeeeeeet.
the entire point of Fallout is that it's set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland also a game set in a base that's falling apart due to lack of supplies would probably be pretty boring
Hmm... On one hand, you're sacrificing your life on Earth, the planet you were BORN on, for a short life on another planet, leaving your friends, family and everyone you've ever known behind. On the other hand, you'll be remembered forever in Human history as one of the first people to step foot on the surface of another world, and get to experience something that sci-fi fans have dreamed of, and only a couple of people in the world have ever actually experienced, plus you'd be paving the way for Humanity to extend it's reach to beyond the planet Earth... And I'm looking too deeply into this. If my life ends up sucking, count me in. It'll be more easy to get away from it all if I'm on another planet.
Too much I haven't done on earth, fuck mars for now.
So do it on Mars Seriously could someone please tell me where the fuck to sign up I've seen like 3 people say they signed up where is the link
So do it on Mars Seriously could someone please tell me where the fuck to sign up I've seen like 3 people say they signed up where is the link
Ok i'l visit Antarctica on mars... Oh wait one god damn minute.
You can visit Mars' south pole
I would go. Is sex allowed, or not because the low gravity would cause messed up babies? Or would the base spin to fake gravity?
You can visit Mars' south pole
Mars' south pole =/= Earth's [insert anything here]
I would go. Is sex allowed, or not because the low gravity would cause messed up babies? Or would the base spin to fake gravity?
What's the point of establishing a colony if we can't procreate and populate the planet?
I would actually love to go only if I could bring my Nintendo 64.
I would go. Seriously, where do we sign up? Its practically a suicide mission, they better not have any requirements such as a second grade education. God damn it I'm trying to help humanity, what do my times tables have to do with it?!
To all the people saying we should send the likes of Justin Bieber and Paris Hilton, why? Are those the people that you really want to pioneer a new civilization on an alien planet? We'll still be able to communicate with them, and materials and supplies would be sent to the planet until they are self-sufficient. I for one, would love the opportunity. But It won't happen.
What's the point of establishing a colony if we can't procreate and populate the planet?
But if there isn't gravity, you can't.
Are you honestly suggesting that Mars doesn't have gravity? Wow...
I would go as long as there was tolerable living conditions
I wonder if you have to be an astronaut to apply...
I wonder if you have to be an astronaut to apply...
I wouldn't be surprised.
This is too big of a decision tbh, I mean, for one, I would be one of the first people there, but I would also miss all of Earths technological advances for roughly a century before I die.
Well I'm sure it won't be so bad. You get sent supplies and the Earth isn't exactly impossibly far away so radio communication is still possible. Hell, you'd probably be able to request things to be sent i.e. the latest awesome video game so it wouldn't feel so far from home. Only thing that would pretty much suck is no internet, and the fact that unless the project has a SERIOUS financial backing that you'd be SOL if they ran out of money and could no longer afford to spend millions sending you supplies every month. The good news is that if the project did have enough financial backing, making it so human lives are directly linked to the success of this project would mean that space exploration and science effort would accelerate 10-fold - the government and the public wouldn't let a space project fail or get cut massively when there are human lives dependant on it's progress. Also, we need to get this completed before 2050 if the US wants to win a science victory.
I'm going. Finally a place where its appropriate to wear my giant suit of armor.
how do you volunteer?
how do you volunteer?
You have to already be on the space program, from what I understand.
I would go. Is sex allowed, or not because the low gravity would cause messed up babies? Or would the base spin to fake gravity?
Who's going to stop you?
Who's going to stop you?
Security Cameras. :tinfoil:
I bet internet wouldn't be a problem.. If you think about it, we could just turn some satellites around and we could get okay internet, and TV :D I'm up for going.
p. sure I saw this in a movie once [img_thumb]http://www.scifiscoop.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/pandorum_4.jpg[/img_thumb] oh yeah fuck you NASA
Naw, fuck YOU, I was about to go to bed.
I bet internet wouldn't be a problem.. If you think about it, we could just turn some satellites around and we could get okay internet, and TV :D I'm up for going.
ping would be terrible [editline]31st October 2010[/editline] mars should get its own internet seperate from the internet on earth for playing games. That way you can at least play online games with other people on mars. Things like browsing the internet wouldn't be so bad with super high ping, but still kinda suck, but games on earth to mars would be downright terrible.
