im not saying that, its just we have a long history of seeing interesting animals and killing them outright, both to record scientific samples, and outright curiosity
Look at it. It literally has a massive spike on its head. If it were to rush at you with that thing you would be in serious trouble.
Considering where it's placed and how it looks there's no way it could actually impale anything. It's not like it'd be aware of how to use it efficiently either and would likely use it the same way any other deer does, and deers don't try to stab each other with sharp objects.
Considering where the antler is the deer would have had to put its head at an impossible angle to get the thing in an angle anywhere near right enough to stab, and considering the shape of a deer skull it would likely just slide off leaving a cut more than penetrating the bone and actually causing serious damage. In a fight, it would just get smashed because it couldn't withstand getting in the face with a set of two full blown antlers. And that's implying the antler is even strong enough to go through bone, which isn't very likely since these things aren't used for that.
Awww... ofcourse we killed it, why wouldn't we kill it?

While Millan summed it up very well, I'd also like to point out that we don't know the circumstances of the hunter killing it.
For all we know, him and his family are poor and the deer will supply the majority, if not all of their meat for weeks or months t
Maybe, but honestly deer here are an agricultural pest here and a massive traffic danger. When it comes to food, there's a higher chance the deer was eating shit off his garden than him really wanting to eat some deer.
a deer cant be a unicorn
Going for the weakest animal which has lowest chance of survival is the most natural and and moral way of hunting. Considering the way deer normally use their antlers, this deer would probably have pretty bleak chances of successful mating and would probably die with the antler stuck in antlers of another deer or something.

Pokorny said he doesn't believe the deer's defect affected its ability to thrive. For one, it had already reached an old age, and the animal's weight was above average when it was killed.
