• Report: Stray jet's pilots were on laptops

The problem with the media reporting these things is that the public is very ignorant when it comes to how pilots actually get you from point A to point B. It's not the 1940's-1970's where every little gauge needs to be babysat and track constantly checked, rechecked, and checked again an hour later. Routine checks are carried out every hour or so, position reports sent to the company dispatch, and significant weather, delays, etc are relayed to the pilots via ACARS. Shame they're going to lose their jobs over this but they were pretty dumb to lose that much situational awareness.
you can get internet on a plane?
Satellite internet.
Driving car: You need to look the speed, the direction, and shit up ahead and on all sides Driving a train: You need to look the speed, that nobody is stuck between the doors, and to announce with the most shitty voice possible all the next stops Driving an airplane: Liftoff, 8 hours of autopilot, Landing.
Driving an airplane? :v:
Driving an airplane? :v:
rofl but really while this is very unprofessional, of course they're gonna be on laptops. Like someone else said, most of the flight is autopilot and they really only have to pay much attention during the landing (hurrrrr) still though, incredibly unprofessional
Basically if you wanted and were allowed to you could (kinda) easily automate the whole flight from take-off to landing except for taxiing and other stuff on the ground...Basically.

The pilots are there to take over when something fails or there's a emergency basically. Pilots have full control during the first 5 minutes and the last 7 most of the time.
Driving an airplane? :v:
Yeah, In Flight Sim I frequently drove airplanes along the ground to see the scenery up close. Also makes it look like you're going faster.

They're always fun. It could be done on an FMS, with some magic wizardry...
The plane was on Auto Piolot, they were OK.
Watching a film?
Replace "Are you coming to bed?" with "Captain, we're closing in on the airport, you should get back to the cockpit"
Autopilot takes away the fun. There we go.
They should've been playing FSX.
My uncle is a pilot and at cruise speed he usually puts his phone on the dashboard and plays HTC's Teeter using the joystick. B)
You know, for everyone saying "OH IT WAS ON AUTOPILOT, ITS OKAY!," think about this: What if something happened to the autopilot system? Pilots are supposed to carefully monitor their aircraft's instruments and displays, which they clearly weren't doing if they were on laptops doing... well, whatever they were doing. I seem to remember a famous plane crash that happened because the pilot had inevertly switched the plane from Altitude Hold (AH) to Control Wheel Steering (CWS) mode (most likely caused by accidentally putting pressure on the yoke), and placed the plane on a controlled descent into terrain (it crashed in the Everglades). Had the pilot been monitoring the displays, he would have noticed it and prevented 101 deaths.
Yeah, In Flight Sim I frequently drove airplanes along the ground to see the scenery up close. This is why pilots should be aloud to have WoW accounts
So first they were arguing for an extra 150 miles, and now it's looking at porn on the laptop.

That picture of Hilary Clinton must've been pretty hot to keep their attention.
I'm currently studying aviation, and two of my instructors, both of whom have several years in the airline game, are of the opinion that the two pilots fell asleep.
Yes, and you're putting many times more people at risk than flying a car, and the number of variables in a plane is significantly higher than in a car.
theres generally nobody in the way of you when youre flying a plane
