Marconi used Tesla patents.
claiming tesla invented the radio without accounting for the work of marconi is disingenuous at best
Is this why everyone and their dog on the Internet seems to have an opinion on Tesla and Edison as if they actually knew them personally? And it's all the same. Tesla good, Edison bad. I find it hard to believe it was so black and white.
Welcome to the internet. Bill Gates good, Steve Jobs bad.
Edison invented the phonograph, the carbon microphone, a practical electric lightbulb, and (independently of another previous inventor) the alkaline battery. Edison thought he could make a death ray (sorry, "peace ray"), wireless energy, and an earthquake machine. He also believed in eugenics and fell in love with a pigeon. You can cherry pick things to make anyone sound good.
The alkaline battery is literally the same thing as a wet-cell battery, only with an electrolytic paste instead of a fluid.
Welcome to the internet. Bill Gates good, Steve Jobs bad.
Bill gates is a dick as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baUmdtrZp90 Flat out denying the existence of inequality in developed countries. Doesn't matter how much you give to charity for PR, if you want to keep the world in the current unequal state as he does you are rotten to the core. At the mention of reducing that inequality he says "oh like korea" what a fucking twat.
Guys. Edison and Telsa both contributed to science and like many smart people, they were fucking weird, please slow your roll.
Edison is still an asshole
Edison is still an asshole
Keep in mind that one had to be a bit of an asshole to be a successful businessman at the turn of the 21st century

At the mention of reducing that inequality he says "oh like korea" what a fucking twat.
That's not really the point he's making. Inequality might be higher than ever before (around 1:00 he notes that equality was much higher back in the day), but the baseline is much better and people live longer. I don't think Bill Gates is working towards an equal society in the economic sense, I think he's working towards a society where poor people have as long lives and the same possibilities for education as the rich. In those regards, the world has probably become more equal. I'm not saying I agree with Bill Gates, but just saying "he's a dick" and that he doesn't want to make the world a better place is stupid. Also, where is he talking about the developed world? I don't feel like watching it too many times, and I only noticed stuff about the world in general.
I think the reason people love Tesla is because he was pretty much a real life mad scientist. Spend a lot of time in his lab, coming up with ideas both brilliant and crazy, became literally insane making all these claims about aliens and death rays, has a lab with a giant tower, he was just a mad scientist type. Edison comes off as just a businessman.
Edison comes off as just a businessman.
Edison was considerably boring and mundane, whereas Tesla was a quirky tragic-hero type. Similar to Van Gogh or Edgar Allen Poe, people like to think that Tesla wasn't treated so well for his genius during his life and that people only came to respect him long after his death. That's where the hatred for Edison comes from -- people ignored Tesla and at times "replaced" him with Edison.
Edison was a businessman, and Tesla was a scientist - very good one. Obviously the reason that you don't get people's "obsession" with Tesla is because you don't have enough knowledge on the matter. Edison didn't invent shit, his employees invented stuff and he patented them. He actually called it "peace ray", not "death ray".
This is just wrong. Please supply a source that says Edison didn't invent anything and it was all his employees' work.

i read this article at like 4:30 AM and i was like "why would elon musk build a museum to his car company" then later on i re-read it [editline]11th July 2014[/editline]
whats funny is that tesla made loads of money during his lifetime and became a famous and well respected scientist worldwide when people say he wasn't given credit, i find that completely idiotic. tesla has an si unit named after him and you would be hard pressed to find a physics textbook without him in it
thats not really the case, he had a period there in the 30s where he was riding it big but he never personally amassed any fortune, mostly his work was done through grants and contracts, he never kept much of his royalties, he died alcoholic, pennyless and slightly psychotic [editline]11th July 2014[/editline] guy had some balls though, he designed a weaponised particle accelerator in the flipping 30's, and it would have worked too

He had his moments of great clarity as all broken clocks do, and he should be celebrated for them, but there's no reason to just start making things up about Edison to make Tesla look even better. The two of them were fairly amicable until the end and a tale of two people overcoming their differences to come up with some of the greatest discoveries and inventions in human history is a far better one than a story with fake heroes and villains.

That bit about "I'm a comedian and speak in hyperbole" "I'm a cretin and I'm talking about something I don't understand, or know that much about, but you can't criticize me because I'm making a funny!!!!!" also his comments on the X-Ray incident with Edison is basically disgusting
