It's a movie.
Is it late if I bring up the fact that Half-Life 3 isn't on the list of games anymore?

The 4 Guild Wars boxes. <3
History Channel's Battle for the Pacific. Somebody actually sells that to people.
At first, my eyes were drawn to Fable almost immediately, and then to Gothic and Halo, just because they both have really bright and contrasting colours in comparison.

Yes, extremely.
fool me once, shame on me. fool me twice....strike 3.
I'm crying right now. This moment right now is the single-greatest moment in my Valve Gaming Career thus far, and I honestly hope it's going to happen so my dreams come true.

Please let it be so.
I actually believe that it is time. I never felt this way but I can feel it. Lets have a bet.

GTA.. am I doing it wrong?
From a design standpoint, the DoD:S boxart is garbage. Front cover is two soliders staring forward on a 2-color background with three somewhat visible soldiers of opposing factions. If I hadn't heard of this game before and didn't have the "valve es #1" bias in my mind, I would avoid this game. Not even the excerpt at the back does the game any justice.
Here's an example of some cool box art.

One can assume that the man in the center of the art is the protagonist. He his facing an overwhelming force, which consists of enemies many times his size and power. The amount of vehicles and the planet in the background shows the scale of the world and its battle.
Here's more box art you most likely recognize. It doesn't have "story" like Starhawk, but it is visually appealing.

Now, which one of these games would you pick up and say "Wow! That looks badass!"
both of these are fucking awful
starhawk's boxart is great, borderlands' is bad lol
both of these are fucking awful
Borderlands ain't awful. Starhawk is a clusterfuck of blending in too many elements in a poor and ugly way.

Halo and counter strike jumped out at me
i've never gotten a straight answer, but what is SO great about this series that people are going crazy about?
Late answer but the short story is, the games are innovative and unique in a non-gimmicky way.
When the first game came out, it proved that first person shooters could have a developed story that is not only told in the instructions book or in a wall of text at the beginning, and also showed the first steps in advanced gaming AI. Keep in mind the previous milestone in gaming before Half Life was Quake, which had amazing graphics for its time (mostly because it was full 3D) but was dumb as fuck in pretty much every other way. Half Life has debatably pushed the FPS developers to make more story driven games, since not very long after its original release, games like System Shock 2 and Deus Ex showed up.
When the second game came out, it showed off an amazing physics engine and proved that, once again, you could tell an engaging story in an FPS. It arguably didn't really leave as much of an impact as the first game on the video game industry (although it did help with the popularization of advanced physics and puzzles related to it), but it was still a great, enjoyable title.
That, and the modding possibilities, along with a unique way to tell a story - no cutscenes, everything is told through characters explaining and exposing rather than some narrator of some sort exposing everything, which gives the story this blur that makes it enjoyable : you have to listen and look at everything to get the whole picture, like how in Black Mesa East you have to look at everything in the lab for Eli to explain you what those things are, and how they ended up here - including the cleverly placed newspaper cuts that expose important parts of the background left completely untold until now.
And of course the gameplay is simple and efficient. In short the Half Life series is an innovative game that manages to be unique without falling into gimmicks, and that manages to both tell a great story and give great gameplay. It also has had a surprisingly big influence on the game industry as a whole, especially on the FPS genre.
both of these are fucking awful
Borderlands' boxart at least sticks out and is recognizable. I don't think there is a lot of other games with a boxart like this, while you can find fuckton of similar "main character holds gun facing threat, often with the addition of random shit happening in the background" boxarts.
At this point. I honestly don't think it will ever live up to the hype. It might be good, it might be great, and people will claim it's a paragon of the industry, but it will never live up to it's own name.
Pah, sure it can, Duke Nukem did it too!

Why do you fucks always cry for EPISODE 3
Why give 2 flying shits about a episode, if they were to make a 3 I'd rather have Half Life 3

Calling it Half Life 3 would neglect previous naming conventions of Half-Life games.
Half-Life 1 Story Arc
Half-Life 1
Half-Life 1: Opposing Force
Half-Life 1: Blue Shift
Half-Life 1: Decay
Half-Life 2 Story Arc
Half-Life 2
Half-Life 2: Episode 1
Half-Life 2: Episode 2
Half-Life 2: Episode 3
The Half-Life 3 story arc would be separate to the Half-Life 2 story arc. If you were to call Episode 3 Half-Life 3 instead, you would be doing something rather illogical.

Because that would make no fucking sense, first finish the half life 2 arc, then move on to half life 3
it would make a lot of sense putting the Nihilanth battle in half-life 2 for instance

You do realize that calling it Episode 3 wouldn't necessarily mean it's as short as the previous episodes right?
oh look its the hl3/episode 3 name argument again
You do realize that calling it Episode 3 wouldn't necessarily mean it's as short as the previous episodes right?
Why
Its a DLC episode, they were intended to be short in the first place
Thats the whole reason they are there...

My point is that nothing is stopping Valve from making an full game and just calling it Episode 3.
I don't see why what they call it matters so goddamn much to how they make it.
