Also, if you look closer, the "After" scans charts them using different regions, meaning something changed along the way.

If less activity means they're smarter, why are the internet experts showing MORE activity during the first test and less during the second, while the newbies remain more or less the same?

your brain is made from nodes. these nodes tell info to other nodes whenever you do something. the charts show that more nodes are firing info in the web-savvy person, than the non-savvy person during a session on the internet. therefore, brain activity is higher in the web-savvy person.

So neither of those can be correct. The mystery of the brain activity chart remains. 2 possible explanations:
1. There is some complicated science explanation for the chart, in which case it is, left unexplained, useless as an illustration.
2. They mislabeled it, which also leaves it useless as an illustration.

It's also possible that the "Savvy" group started having used the internet a lot prior to the test up to the point they were scanned. After which the limitation of the test (1hr/day max) kicked in causing their brain activity to drop.
I watched a video of him on CBS and his explanation is completely different from the popsci article.
Apparently the "1st scan session" is while they're using the internet, and the "2nd scan session" is while they're reading a book, which makes a lot more sense.

This is pretty obvious, but it really depends on what you do while your on the internet, some people just play games, and don't get involved with forums or read articles. Those kinds of people won't get much out of the internet. Whereas people who do, will obviously have a higher intake of knowledge and general ability to communicate will go up, Hooray for IQ.
Of course, most parts of Facepunch are void of actual a decent IQ standard though, retarded OIFY section is one of them :P
