It takes a special kind of sick to shoot up a Grad party
I'm just glad no one died.

It takes a sick person to kill anyone in cold blood.
There's a huge difference. That's just recklessness. Pulling out your gun and continuously firing into a crowd of people, hitting several of them, is obviously intent to kill unless there was a mad struggle over the gun and he never meant to discharge it at all. Either way, assault and reckless endangerment seems a bit light of a charge for someone so violent and unstable. He probably needs mental help more than a prison sentence.
This is why I wrote that if he AIMED it changes things. Randomly pointing is not aiming. Firing into a crowd is reckless, which is what he's charged with. For a guy who supposedly was trying to kill people by shooting into a crowd, he only managed to seriously wound one person. That doesn't support intent to kill.
As more evidence develops, they can always upgrade the charges. In fact I'd expect upgraded charges for one reason- plea bargain. By piling charges on him they can scare him into pleading guilty on lesser charges. The end result is he goes to prison and it won't even take the expense of a trial to do it.
And this is not terrorism....?
Considering only one required a surgery I imagine it might have been some tiny gun? I dunno, is shooting somebody with .22 considered attempted murder?
Either way this guy needs some close attention by some psychologists, this definitely isn't normal.
If you fire a gun at someone, intending to hit them, I'd call it attempted murder regardless of calibre.
Unless it's a BB gun or something.

Well that's why I am wondering how is it possible he got only assault!
I am not saying it's okay to shoot people with .22 or ANYTHING, I am just trying to find the explanation for the low charges.
