That's easy, cause they've been whaling for hundreds of years and when it got banned they kept doing it and eventually they started doing it with the reasoning of "scientific research" Besides, what sort of scientific research involves explosively harpooning whales? And battery farming is pretty nasty too, so there goes that part of your argument.
