the statement is 100% true though.
Did I say it wasn't?
the statement is 100% true though.
It's just a very uninformed (possibly dumbed-down) one. It's amusing to us because we know the game and the fact that it's not just automatic weapons (the hot topic of the day, I might add) that are used.
My friend made a library map for CSGO and people started yelling school shooting and shit because it looked like a school library. (Valve also wanted to promote the map, if he reworks it to be a prison library or something) It's fucking stupid.
the statement is 100% true though.
sensationalism can still be accurate, doesn't mean it's not sensational.

Going into that article I didn't really see any bias, they had opinions from both sides including the developers. Infact, the developer has the first word. This is the first opinion presented, its also 1/3 the article.
One young man, who claimed to be involved in the creation of the game map, said he believed gamers were "sufficiently mature to realize that the degree of freedom allotted to you in the virtual realm do not extend to your rights in reality." His comments were published on his website, where he also responded to many of CBC's questions. The man refused to identify himself and speak on the record with CBC, but online he referred to himself as an alumnus of Port Moody Secondary School. "Let us start by saying Port Moody Secondary is a great school," he wrote. "Rest assured there is no malicious intent behind this production to any actual school property, nor any actual persons associated with the school. "Additionally, people should realize this is simply a game. No physical harm comes from it. Guns in reality are generally lethal weapons. Guns in a videogame can't hurt anyone." He continued: "There are no students being killed. The gameplay is the same as all counter strike games, where you have two teams fighting against each other, much like most other shooters which use public settings as game environments."

Violent movies and video games should be legislatively banned, and against the law, with sever penalties attached. The young minds of our future is hanging in the balance.
:v:
yes, because of a map in counter strike people will now go shoot up that school
People argued Microsoft flight simulator was used as a training tool for the terrorists who did 9/11. They're idiots.
I always wanted to make my highschool into a CS map but I never got around to it
I made my highschool computer room in cube2:sauerbraten, during class while taking my year long AP comp sci course. It was at 10x the normal scale so everyone was tiny. All 5 of us had a deathmatch in there and it was good fun shooting at my classmates with rocket launchers. this was back in 2008/2009. If I did that nowadays I would probably get suspended.
I held off on releasing a map made from a University lecture hall for CS:GO for this exact reason. It's a good idea to wait out things like this or risk the impression of tastelessness. And whilst this is not something that would bother me personally, a backlash is a backlash, and sometimes you need to bend to an arbitrary change of plans.
:v:
Hope they don't forget every other piece of media that shows violent footage.

The site doesn't let me see the videos. Is that a regional issue?
:v:
"sever penalties"
Since CS and CS:S were released, literally hundreds of school maps have been made and released. Some are based on real locations and some are not, but in either case you don't see people using them as plotting devices.
Was the map made recently, or before all this school shooting nonsense?
I wonder what reaction this would of gotten if the map was made for Left for Dead.
I wonder what reaction this would of gotten if the map was made for Left for Dead.
"The developer of this dang game sees his fellow students and teachers as nothing more than zombies for killing! Also capitalism!"
We had someone who made a map out of our city Mjölby in Sweden for Cs 1.6, fucking amazing
Reminds me of my sister seeing me playing that he grenade map that takes place in a basketball court, getting outraged because of the recent terror plot where kids had been shot hanging from the basket goals.
makes me want to learn mapping and do my old highschool. But I'm 20 so they might press charges.
Can any of you "youngsters" tell us why school shootings, and multiple shootings in the public, workplace, etc were virtually non-existent prior to the 1980's? Probably not, Not everyone who plays violent games will commit violence, but I'm pretty sure the incidence is greatly increased by violet games." I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry.
Show them this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bath_School_disaster
"The distinguishing thing about our school is the rainbow-coloured lockers … it makes you feel good. And to see that violence that same senseless violence in our hallway, our rainbow-coloured hallway, it was devastating."
I'm not sure I would want to go to that school.
Oh my God a map someone made of a school for a popular shooting video game. Clearly this is meant to aid in terrorism and school shooting plots and not just a budding Source mapper's attempt at mapping something familiar in order to improve his or her mapping skills. Fucking Christ people get worked up over the stupidest shit. [editline]22nd March 2013[/editline]
I'm not sure I would want to go to that school.
Not the rainbow colored hallway!
Last august i was on a vacation with my friends in Houston for Quake-con, and when we went to the JFK memorial i immediately recognised the road and the layout except for some different landscape. It was the best vacation ever.
Quake-Con/JFK were in Dallas...?
Oh god, the comments. They're so much fun. How many of you signed up to refute them?
why would you sign up just to refute somebodies opinion? seems like a waste of time, since the majority of internet users viewing that page are never going to view it again.
Isn't it common sense to not recreate real life places, and if you do you can't be accurate-ish? At the same time the parents are blowing this out of proportion.
That map looks freaking awesome. Why does Canada have such nice looking schools?
I always wanted to make my highschool into a CS map but I never got around to it
I did, then I deleted it after I heard about some guy's house getting raided for doing the same. I actually only got the two floor atrium done before I deleted it, I probably put too much attention to detail into it anyway, for a CSS zombie mod map.
"The distinguishing thing about our school is the rainbow-coloured lockers … it makes you feel good. And to see that violence that same senseless violence in our hallway, our rainbow-coloured hallway, it was devastating."
The mappers took away your rainbow hallways innocence, you will never walk them the same way again.
a video game in which players use automatic assault rifles to shoot at enemy forces.
Scrubs never heard of the AWP apparently..
I always wanted to make a map of my highschool just because it was the perfect shape for a counterstrike game, with tight but long halls and the gym at one end and the connected chemistry rooms at the other, my school probably wouldn't have ever noticed, the wording of that article is hilarious, scenes or "maps", um anybody whos ever had to add stuff to a game knows its a map, not a scene or scenario or whatever [editline]22nd March 2013[/editline] my school destroyed the rainbow lockers the year before I went there anyway, I should make a map of the old elementry school though, cas its abandoned now
