Why has everyone been freaking about overpopulation recently? My friend at school said that if our birth & death rate stays the same then in 15 years the planet will be filled shoulder to shoulder with people... There's no fucking way.... Sorry .

Hahaha?
Why not have both? There's no reason that we as a massive species cannot take on more than one task or more than one major priority at a time. My argument is that it's unreasonable to insinuate that people who want to live forever are selfish. At the same time, I would love it to extend to every human being.
You have to understand that death is a part of life and without it you would not exist.

Overpopulation very much IS a problem, at least in terms of sustainable supplies. If it WASN'T, we wouldn't have little Somalian children fucking STARVING. Okay, maybe if you EVENLY distributed food and wealth, yes, we'd still have plenty, but that is DECIDEDLY not the case. Bit of a watch, and mainly a debunking of some creationist bullshit, but the question of population is prominent. Start at 12:55 actually, for the key argument.
You have to understand that death is a part of life and without it you would not exist.
What extending life spans doesn't mean you won't die, and what's this about not existing this statement was really not thought about.
Expanding the human life span would open up new possibilities. And while overpopulation will be a problem, remember that it is a problem with or without the extension. Which is why we must push for colonization, and increasing the human life span would ensure that some of us would actually survive the trip to another world.
Fuck the disadvantages, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. [editline]29th February 2012[/editline] and fuck overpopulation, move to space or someshit
I hope this will actually make us live longer AND not be a sack of shit that can't do anything when reaching somewhere around 80
Old age is just a variety of symptoms that can be cured. Wrinkly skin is simply a lack of collagen. That has been cured in mice. Heart failure (death of old age) is just a variety of heart diseases, many of which have been cured in mice. We won't be old fucks living past 80, we will legitimately feel young and look young (if you haven't already chosen to be mechanically enhanced). In fact, the only thing about old age that still perplexes medical science is brain disease and decrepitude of the brain, but this too, will eventually be able to be cured.
The primary part of my argument was not that this will increase the rate of overpopulation (which it certainly would), an issue that, despite your pictures of desert and space, we are in fact facing. I was mainly saying that there's hundreds of diseases and epidemics that prevent millions from reaching 80, let alone adulthood. We should be spending our money on curing these, before we waste our money trying to extend the lives of those that already live damn near perfect lives relative to the rest of the world. I.e. all of us. I understand if you disagree, living to see space travel is pretty much on par with curing diseases.
Overpopulation is happening in China, India and Africa. Most people in these countries would most likely not be able to afford this treatment.

There's like two cities in the entire United States that could be considered over populated, and only one of those doesn't really have anywhere else to expand but up. It's not like the world will be actually overpopulated any time soon; we've always got Canada, parts of the US, a large swath of Russia, parts of Africa, etc. It's just Europe and Southeast Asia that are getting crowded.

They should test it on me. I crave for 150 more years of sitting in front of my PC and my work-desk.
Interesting, but no, thanks. I'm fine the way I am with all my flaws and imperfections.
This shouldnt be accessible to normal people. Only people who've proven they have the right to a longer life.
This shouldnt be accessible to normal people. Only people who've proven they have the right to a longer life.
yes like money
I don't want to live that old, honestly. Everything would hurt and I just generally don't want to see myself falling apart every morning knowing I might have another 50 or 100 years of this to go.
If the cells are regenerating you won't really feel "old"

Hell, the overpopulation thing can be good. It would necessitate the push into space.
Enjoy your death and your mental clone living on
That depends, really. We don't truly know what conciseness is yet, so once we figure that out, maybe we'll be able to transfer it.
