You can believe in evolution and be a Christian, which would be me.
Me too. I don't believe in the stupid "earth is 300 years old lol" bullshit, in fact i don't dispute the big bang, i just have a different theory as to what caused it.
Yeah, I never understood how people could believe evolution was false when there are several cases of early humans existing.
The big bang's officially recognized by the Vatican. Because a priest proposed it. Fun fact.
Me too. I don't believe in the stupid "earth is 300 years old lol" bullshit, in fact i don't dispute the big bang, i just have a different theory as to what caused it.
Same here.
I thought TH89 was black but his mom is white... Just kidding. And jeez, why don't they just pay some Christians to sharpie out that section instead of buying a whole new set of honers level bio textbooks.
You can believe in evolution and be a Christian, which would be me.
Sorry, but that doesn't make sense. [editline]01:43AM[/editline]
Me too.
Sorry, but that doesn't make sense.
Yeah it does, Christian pretty much just means he believes Christ's the messiah, he doesn't even have to go to church.
Your "theory" that lacks any kind of scientific evidence?
let's not make this a "be a dick to all Christians" thread
I bet you believe in theistic evolution. [editline]01:47AM[/editline]
let's not make this a "be a dick to all Christians" thread
it already is
The average student wouldn't read it that way. This is wrong, and it's indoctrination. TH89's mom needs to stop putting her beliefs in a biology textbook.
It teaches the kids the academic usage of the word myth. TH89's mom is a genius, she's teaching biology and vocabulary at the same time!
If god is omnipotent why do his followers need to go to a church to prey? And if jesus was born in a shed, why do they need such costly churches?
If god is omnipotent why do his followers need to go to a church to prey? And if jesus was born in a shed, why do they need such costly churches?
And why is this in a biology textbook? Yeah basically that part of the book does come across as offensive, even if you can argue "WELL TECHNICALLY NOT" there's not point in having it and you all just love it because it's against Christians. I mean re-writing the whole book is stupid, but for future reference let's leave out crap like that.
I bet you believe in theistic evolution. [editline]01:47AM[/editline] it already is
Tell me this... What created the 3 dimensions. Or energy? Nobody has a scientific theory for that either...
And why is this in a biology textbook?
Because words can have a meaning that ignorant people fail to realize. Like how I can say 9/11 was awesome and not be morally evil.
Mega Ninja'd [editline]10:52PM[/editline] Twice over
And why is this in a biology textbook?
because retard Christians claim that the universe was created by the Judeo-Christian God in 7 days. this is a BIOLOGY textbook.. it's going to cover the origin of the universe.
I have an idea, why not bring this discussion to a new thread... :geno: [editline]10:54PM[/editline] In fast threads...
If god is omnipotent why do his followers need to go to a church to prey?
they have to prey on children.
they have to prey on children.
Oh god, I can't believe I made that pun on accident. Subconscious typo.
Some of us take the 7 days to mean 7 days in God's time, since time is relative, that could/would be billions of years.
And some others of you go "yeah this shit isn't literal at all" and those are the cool kind. Don't beat around the bush. You can be a Christian and still accept the bible was written by men.
And some others of you go "yeah this shit isn't literal at all" and those are the cool kind. Don't beat around the bush. You can be a Christian and still accept the bible was written by men.
yep.. pick and choose bullshit.
Your "theory" that lacks any kind of scientific evidence?
Technically any theory on what happened before the big bang has no scientific evidence, doesn't it? We have no evidence of what was here before the universe.
Yea, there are a lot of us that leave the bible up to interpretation. If you take its parts out of context yea it sounds crazy as fuck, but as a whole its understandable.
If you leave some parts up to interpretation then you have to leave all of it up to interpretation. Why would Leviticus be metaphorical, but Mark literal? [editline]06:00AM[/editline]
local news of it, not stupid fox news: http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2010/apr/07/board-hearing-today-on-textbook/
Haha, knox news. It's funny because it rhymes with fox.
Post about religion here now http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?p=21261186#post21261186
Why?
I leave it all up to the reader. Every one of us has a different meaning that we pull from it.
The first non-hypocritical christian I've ever seen. :h:
Back to the biology book... I'll be honest I don't see the point of the creationist reference. It seems to just be there to piss off Christians. Just ignore creationism completely like most textbooks do.
Actually most of my friends/family would tell you the same things. The extremists really give us a terrible name.
Most(all, except you...so far) of the christians I've talked to are quite a bit hypocritical. However, maybe only the more extreme ones are the ones that end up talking to me about it.
I'll be honest I don't see the point of the creationist reference. It seems to just be there to piss off Christians. Just ignore creationism completely like most textbooks do.
TH89's mom is a IRL troll. A damn good one at that.
