Yes, because only enemies of the American people speak Ara- oh wait: http://www.army.mil/article/130933/Army_values_motivate_girl_from_Baghdad_to_Soldier/
Someone should try and drum up some fake controversy over Arabic numerals. First person who can get someone on Fox News to suggest a switch to Roman numerals wins.
I don't know about you, but I only use AMERICAN numerals.
I don't know about you, but I only use AMERICAN numerals.
Like BEER and MONSTER TRUCK.
Like BEER and MONSTER TRUCK.
Don't forget EAGLE, AR-15, and MUSCLE CAR
I remember in public elementary school we had culture week. Each day of the week our teacher would have us learn about the different countries around the world and eat some of their traditional foods for lunch. Chinese and German were some of the best cultures we ever did on that week. We never learned languages (at least I think we didn't) because some of us were young and hard to follow some of the words. Years later the same teacher took a small trip to Japan with her family and heard that she was a big hit with karaoke bars. How'd we get from then to now that saying the pledge in another language became a major offense?
This guy makes the community look good.
The school's student leader, Andrew Zink, who is in charge of the morning announcements, told US media that he knew the reading would attract controversy. He permitted it to go forward, because he believed it was "the right thing to do". "What makes you American is not the language you speak, but the ideas you believe in," he said.
These kinds of people undo his efforts.
Complaints were received from people who lost family in Afghanistan

Arabic is not widely spoken in Afghanistan, where the major languages are Dari and Pashto.

This guy makes the community look good. These kinds of people undo his efforts.
I don't even see how they would be offended, their family members died in Afghanistan to protect Americans, including the ones that speak Spanish, French, aribic, and southern
I don't even see how they would be offended, their family members died in Afghanistan to protect Americans, including the ones that speak Spanish, French, aribic, and southern
Welcome to the government of "I'm offended, so you have to stop....."
I don't even see how they would be offended, their family members died in Afghanistan to protect Americans, including the ones that speak Spanish, French, aribic, and southern
Because regardless of the amount of boxes thrown around by racists whenever the term is mentioned, "islamaphobia" is a real thing that exists in this country and it's spreading at a disgusting rate.
Ewww brown people languages; that's offensive to our perfect white children.
Just to point something out here, but trying to say it's just white people that complain about this is pretty redundant. I'm pretty sure there are black, or asians who have their own disliking toward 'brown people language'. The way I take it is that they think the pledge is something that should be sung in English, because that's just the way it is. Hearing it in another language is offensive to them because it's outside of their comfort zone. They're intolerant, sure. The fact that the principal and everyone has to apologize over this, and it became news is a bit idiotic
How can you be a true american if you are offended of the pledge being said in another language? Cultures mixing is literary the whole fucking point of the country.
Sorry for your loss, but you're still an idiot. People don't speak Arabic in Afghanistan.
They don't speak Arabic in Afghanistan? What is the common language then? Is it English since it was part of the British Empire? Or is it Sanskrit or something ancient like that?
They don't speak Arabic in Afghanistan? What is the common language then? Is it English since it was part of the British Empire? Or is it Sanskrit or something ancient like that?
Pashto and Dari. Pashto is commonly know as Afghani in old terms and Dari is a dialect of Persian, commonly known as Afghan Persian or Dari Persian. Pashto is also the second largest language spoken in Pakistan. The only Middle Eastern countries that truly speaks Arabic as their main language are Jordan, Sauda Arabia, Oman, Yemen and Qatar. Arabic is the main language in Mauitania, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt though all of these are African countries. Arabic is a widely used language in Morocco, Western Sahara and Iraq as well, but not the main/national language. Iran and Tajikistan speak Persian, with Afghanistan speaking Dari Persian(see above). Pakistan mainly speaks Urdu and English. However it should be known that parts of neighbouring nations will speak each others languages as migrants, refugees, militants, etc.. become part of each region.
I remember when people were getting offended from the pledge being said in spanish. Why are people getting pissed off that people want to be patriotic in multiple languages?
I remember when people were getting offended from the pledge being said in spanish. I live very close by to this school and I think that people need to stop being so uppity, especially since the WHOLE WEEK had other languages.
Because dumb people think Arabic is a terrorist language only spoken by terrorists.
Yeah well the other team can keep their secret code talk and we'll keep our secret freedom code talk. I would feel the same if they were speaking American in the sand dunes, anyway.
I kinda want to see what would happen if someone at that school said the pledge in Hebrew. Somehow I feel it would get the same reaction.
This guy makes the community look good. These kinds of people undo his efforts.
Uh no Actually he's really a shit head. Andrew Zinc knew that it would cause an uproar in the school when he gave the OK to do it without any administrators knowing so he could "Expose the truth about Pine Bush" He's also responsible for calling media sources and giving the town even more attention than necessary once again. He also went on radio stations and I think he phoned in on tv for his own publicity so he could make sure everyone know that he did it because "it was the right thing to do". He more or less called the media and newspapers to get his name out there and get himself benefit at the cost of the school's reputation [editline]22nd March 2015[/editline]
I live very close by to this school and I think that people need to stop being so uppity, especially since the WHOLE WEEK had other languages.
Uh no it didn't actually, Spanish and Japanese were supposed to be spoken Monday and Tuesday but for various reasons they weren't spoken so instead Arabic was the first language spoken on Wednesday, bear in mind no one knew it was being spoken until the last moment when the morning announcements came on
I kinda want to see what would happen if someone at that school said the pledge in Hebrew. Somehow I feel it would get the same reaction.
Russian would probably get the same or worse reaction as well.
my senior year they'd play the pledge during my financial algebra class. nobody actually said it but the teacher would instantly send you to the dean if you didn't stand for it. saw like 6 kids through the year get sent out, half the time for not paying attention.
You know, this is actually a good way to indoctrinate Muslim students into American patriotism. Muslims believe that God is listening when they speak Arabic, so to make a pledge in Arabic is to make a pledge near God's ear.
Didn't stop my school from punishing students who refused.
I refused every day when I was in high school, when I had a teacher who was sending people out for that, until the teacher was told he couldn't keep sending me to the office over that. I wasn't against the pledge, I was against being forced to say something against my will. After that, no one had to say the pledge anymore.
Funny it took me a little while to remember this, but the first time I mentioned to my coworkers that I was studying Arabic at college, their immediate response was "What the fuck? You going to go fight in jihad or something? You a terrorist?" I was like "It's Al-Jihad, bitch." Fuckin' ignorant rednecks don't know how to use the declarative article properly...
Keep up the struggle mujahid
The fact that we're forcing children to swear an oath to a country (recite nationalist propaganda) in schools is pretty fucked though. I know they're not legally able to FORCE them to do it, but the fact they still make them do it at all is disgusting.
I wouldn't go that far. Calling it nationalist propaganda is a bit silly. But it shouldn't be forced on kids either way. Part of freedom is being able to choose whether or not you recite it, and I exercised that freedom by not doing so much to the chagrin of my teachers from about fourth grade on through high school.
Oh my god they are trying to recruit them into ISIS. How could we let this happen.

and from Jewish parents
Just fuck off.
The fact that you're trying to argue that racism is a bad thing yet you mention that the parents were Jewish and make that a focal point of the article (considering that 9.1 % of New Yorkers are jews, so yeah, no shit there are jews) kinda makes your argument redundant as it's not really relevant at all.
Holy shit I saw this thread and didn't think any thing of it but it heard it on the radio today. This happened near me in the next town over. Would never expect that considering how politically correct our State is.
I have a plan 1. Teach kids arabic 2. Kids shitpost in arabic all over ISIS forums 3. Beat ISIS via shitposting Pretty hard to learn arabic though, but i'd love to see it instead of whatever the usual non romance language is.
He more or less called the media and newspapers to get his name out there and get himself benefit at the cost of the school's reputation
So then all he did is throw the bait out there? It's not his fault the suckers went for it. All it would have taken is for people's reaction to be "The Pledge in another language? Meh, whatever." and his diabolical plan would have failed.
These people sound like my stepdad, who transferred my brother to a different school after he found out they had sections of class covering learning Spanish, la idioma del diablo.
