Weed being illegal is so ass backwards it blows my mind.
Its easily one of the safest recreational drugs in the world, you cant even OD on it, and hardly addictive(its psychological addiction only as well so its really your will power) It gives a great feeling, its like you are 100% in control but in a weird state(unless you get really fucking high) has been shown to medically help AIDs patients, cancer patients, anorexia, and other very difficult to treat illnesses. It doesnt give you some hangover, you just get burnt out which is just being tired essentially, the most it does is short term memory loss, feeling tired/bored, and in rarer side effects, give paranoia, disassociation, depression, and anxiety, but ALL SHORT TERM and extremely mild, honestly the paranoia/anexity is more when you are high than when you arent.
The best part about weed is their are so many ways to enjoy it, you can avoid smoking ENTIRELY with edibles/vaporizers, so now at most you are gonna get a cavity from eating pot brownies and maybe fat. The best part about edibles is, it doesnt make it taste any different, at most you can taste a tiny hint of weed but its not even gross. And honestly, if I was forced into a choice of getting into a car with someone piss drunk or someone incredibly high, I would feel 10000x safer with the high person driving.
Compare that to alcohol, enough Alcohol will kill you, its actually not that hard to die or get sent to the hospital, it can be extremely addicting with horrible withdrawls, can fuck your judgement up pretty bad, you can get out of control drunk pretty quick if you arent careful. I love alcohol, being drunk is great, IN MODERATION.
Tobacco just blows my mind, I was addicted for years, its awful, I quit and its been awhile and dont plan on going back since I sort of finally had an important realization that I felt extremely disgusting and I knew others felt the same when I was around them, I personally didnt like that feeling. But even to this day I have cravings, its awful, I started like 5 years ago, and I STILL get cravings. They are so god damn addicting and horrible for you. I still enjoy Hookah but thats a rare occasion with my friends.
The funniest thing is, weed helped me quit cigarettes entirely. I bought a few bags, smoked them, lost all the addiction and cravings(im talking about the bad ones right after you quit) so weed helped me get over the hump.
Then I quit weed on the spot and I havent smoked since summer, the first few days after quitting weed are best described as, I was bored. Thats it, and it went away. Unlike cigs which when I tried quitting before over the years made me feel awful and angry and I couldnt stop thinking about cigs.
So why the fuck is weed illegal after all that? I have never heard anyone come up with ANY legit arguments or points as too why weed should be illegal that made me think that maybe they had a good point.
such brave
The laws themselves cause pretty much all the related trouble. Even worse is the propaganda against drugs as it leaves people without any real knowledge at all. The illegal nature of drugs makes it even more attractive.
Teenagers should be thought the positive, neutral, negative, long-term & short-term effects of all the common drugs. Knowing shit makes people drugsmart, instead of becoming addicts.

If you want to know anything about a drug. Always go to erowid, everything else is mostly bullshit financed by the pharmacutical industrial complex, tabacco & alcohol industry.
Interesting read, it seems that cannabis could have a negative effect on my pre-existing anxiety with panic attacks and what not. Still doesn't change my view on cannabis (pro-cannabis that is).
I understand how you feel, the only reason people seem to get annoyed with people talking about pot is because it's pot, if it's football or videogames they don't care, and I think what Mr._N was calling obnoxious was that they only voted on that one issue, which is also understandable.
well i think it's also understandable for people to vote on things that affect them rather than things they don't really see the end result of. i didn't bother voting in my local council elections this year because really none of them seem to do anything feasible to me, but if there was a marijuana law referendum i'd vote on that because i've been arrested for possession and i don't want that to happen again
How obnoxious.
wow how dare they get excited about a law they have been yearning to pass for years
you should hear what they used to (probably still) say about gay people.
The Tories still say that stuff about gay people, and guess who is currently in power...
Next step. Krokodil!
Let me know how the spike in schizophrenia cases goes over the next decade America...
I wonder how long it'll be until federal legalization. City and statewide is great and all, but good luck finding a job in the government/military if you're smoking weed, legal or not. For example, I want to get into a program where the Army will pay for my medical school. Someone who smokes wouldn't be able to get into that even if it were legal where they live.
Bring some of that green love overseas and we can return some rainbow love, alright?

Krokodil would probably not exist if it were not for prohibition.

What happens when you overdose on weed needles? You warp forward through time and pass out covered in doritos.
What happens when you overdose on some other drugs? You convulse and die.
You have to look at it from the perspective of a voter who is undecided on this issue. When they read that bit in the article, all they're going to think of is loud 420 stoners who only went to vote because of that sole issue. It doesn't help supporters of legalization who want to take this issue seriously.
So you believe they aren't taking the issue of the legality of cannabis seriously because they wanted to go smoke some cannabis after voting for the legality of cannabis? Isn't that what the "sole issue" is? The ability to have and consume marijuana? Just because they're young and eager to combat a problem with society (take note, most people who are of voting age don't vote) doesn't mean they aren't taking the issue "seriously."
This is like being upset with gay people who start shouting pro-gay rights slogans after voting for marriage equality. You gonna claim that they aren't taking the issue seriously either?
Thought this didn't really need another thread.
It just became legal in Colorado too.

As much as I really want to see it legalized everywhere, I can't escape the fear that we're going to vote in some Bible-thumping evangelical Republican who is going to come down on the "legal" weed industry like a ton of bricks. Literally the only thing keeping all these state-level consumers out of jail is the Obama administration's good graces. Everything they do is illegal at the federal level.
I wish they would legalize it over here in Canada for chronic pain already!
Cannabis and alcohol doesn't make people stupid, stupidity makes stupid people stupid.

If you drink too much alcohol it destroys your liver and causes brain damage. But if you drink it in moderation it's okay.

Working at walmart is a chronic pain for me, and I need my medication.

Do you have chronic TMD headaches and migraines?
Do you have chronic TMD headaches and migraines?
Yes I do.
I wish they would legalize it over here in Canada for chronic pain already!
Medical marijuana is already legal here but most doctors refuse to prescribe it, it's for that reason the courts in Ontario ruled marijuana prohibition to be unconstitutional for a while, until a higher court reversed it.
It'll still get in the hands of teenagers anyway but its a step in the right direction
so what
The chief of Portland's police said that they are still going to enforce state law regarding marijuana possession. While I agree that marijuana should be legalized for recreational use, it is still the duty of Portland police to enforce state law.

As lame as it is, try and get on the MMPR. The requirements are lower, but you can't grow.
But if you have, say, a compassion club in the area, if you buy from them and the cops happen to stumble across you with personal amounts and an MMPR card, they probably won't even bother to book you unless there's something else going on (and that's why the cops are involved) or you give them shit and disrespect them. Just don't grow at home until it's legal (one way or the other).

The thing is, I doubt most businesses would make exceptions for marijuana in their drug-testing policies, since it is a mind-altering drug, much the same way that drinking on the job isn't allowed in most places (not that it stops anybody, my foreman is high as fuck all the time).

I dunno dude, the first (and only) time I ever got truly high I felt dumb as fuck, because every stupid little thing was abso-fucking-lutely hilarious for no god-damn reason at all. Even the act of describing to a friend online how everything was fucking hilarious had me in an insatiable gigglefit.

Pretty much the same here. It's legal for medicinal use, but the majority of this state is little podunk conservative towns that frown upon that sort of thing, so the only way to get a card/get the stuff itself is to go to the "more liberal" cities such as Santa Fe or Albuquerque.

"I got high once and it made me feel stupid" is not the same as "Cannabis makes people dumber".
Personally, I'm just as able to do intellectual things when high as I am when sober, and I often program when high.
O shit iv'e been seeing all this news about Portland legalizing marijuana but I thought it was Portland Oregon. I just realized it was Portland Maine where I'm 20 minutes from.

If anything, that would make legalization move faster. People would begin to realize how fucking stupid banning something so harmless is. When the feds start raiding legitimate businesses and ruining people's livelihoods, that is going to shit on the entire concept of the harm being the drug and not the legal system that locks people up and strips their rights over a small amount of a plant that grows all over the world.

I had that once.
Turned out to be fever. I got quite possibly the worst night of sleep in my life out of the deal.
