Recreational use of cannabis legalised for adults over 21 in Portland, ME

I will be surprised if cannabis doesn't get leagalized in the next 5-10 years here in Denmark. We have had political parties pushing for it for at least a decade now. Studies even showed that people in Holland (where it is legal) consume less cannabis than here in Denmark (where it is illegal). A lot of the major gangs here make the most of their money from selling it, because it is the number one illegal drug. A lot less people take the harder stuff like cocaine, amphetamine or heroin, so the gangs would lose a lot of profit, and the state would get a lot of profit through taxes.
"I got high once and it made me feel stupid" is not the same as "Cannabis makes people dumber".
Personally, I'm just as able to do intellectual things when high as I am when sober, and I often program when high.
It's a joke dude, calm thine tits.
And here we're still stuck with the 'gedoogbeleid' that probably isn't going anywhere in a few years. Our government really should step up their efforts.
I'm against the use of drugs myself, but then again I'm against tobacco and especially alcohol, and I don't see how weed can be much worse than either one of the two, yet weed is banned and these are legal.
I am in concurrence along the lines of Mr Chomsky in that the dangerous classes need to be suppressed somehow whether that is through disproportionately demonising their choice of intoxicants or just plain selective enforcement
"Lock up those dirty dangerous classes in private prisons so I can buy a jazuzzi." - Some prison owner
It is still illegal on a state and obvious federal level. The only thing this does is give the arresting officer a choice to be 'nice' and let you off the hook with a city ordinance pay-by-mail fine (comparable to a speeding ticket), or he can be a dick and charge you with a state offense, which you will have to go to court, be arrested, bailed, your name and address in the local paper and google, and all that other not good stuff.
good more people die from prescription and over-the-counter medicines than they due from weed (because weed has never been recorded to be the cause of death or any illness that leads to it

It's decriminalized on the state level for up to 2.5 Ounces, so no, cops aren't going to be charging you with a crime unless you exceed that amount. It even says this in the source in the OP...
Police Chief Michael Sauschuck has said that, regardless of Tuesday’s vote, officers will continue to enforce state law, which says possessing as much as 2.5 ounces of marijuana can lead to a civil summons and fines of $350 to $1,000. Furnishing, selling or packaging the drug for sale can bring criminal charges.
OK i stand corrected. I thought I had to say something to that effect because many people get confused thinking it's legal and all. I live in Illinois, and a while back chicago put up one of these ordinances, and many of my friends put up statuses on FB saying its legal and this and that, when its not the case at all really.

Don't. . .don't do that.
