Freedom includes (but it's not limited to) freedom of speech, freedom of the press and freedom of religion. If we restrict certain freedom in religion, the same excuse can be applied for restricting other forms of freedom. For example "We should ban muslims because they carry a trait we don't like", "We should ban left-wing/right-wing newspapers because they carry a trait we don't like" and "We should ban any opinions that opposes ours, because they generally carry traits we don't like". The fact that muslims are not a race is completely irrelevant.
