I was very anti windows 8, but now I've made the switch and honestly, I don't use metro that much. The desktop experience is improved, with a better file explorer and task manager (also multimonitor taskbar is a great addition). I only use metro when I search for an app, or a setting.
I agree with this. Windows 8 is great, and now that I've used it, I wouldn't wanna go back to the old start menu. This new one is quicker and looks prettier.
This should be cool to try.
So, people that have the OS, how is it?
As a very casual user I like it. The metro gives a bit more of a visual feel to the menu, and you can still have the traditional start menu with programs. It feels like the time between when windows initially comes up (as in the metro logo) to password input feels a bit faster than windows 7. It came with all the drivers for my shit, so that's a definite plus because I use custom builds. I hear from some people that it like limits programmers or something but I have yet to see how that actually is. [editline]21st November 2012[/editline] While I do agree that it would also work on tablets, it doesn't mean it doesn't work for desktops.
If anyone has obtained a spare key this way and are willing to give it away for free, please PM me!
Obviously haven't used it. I'm rarely on the start screen and I'm rarely on anything that uses the start screen.
Funny. I know one of the heads of Heery International's IT team, and after putting it on one of his systems thats his opinion as well. His opinion is "Microsoft is making a huge mistake with Windows 8..." But obviously he hasn't used it.
Installing Win8 right now, have it on my laptop and other rig, totally worth it, one of the best OS's since XP
Win 8 can kiss my ass
Win 8 can kiss my ass
Considering that you're still using Windows XP you really don't have much room to talk.
The great thing about the start menu is that you don't have to sift through menus like previous versions, and you can organize shortcuts neatly and categorize them like I have. Now it only takes 2 clicks to start something instead of 4 (or hovering over menus til they open) Plus there are some useful apps like the email/weather stuff to get a quick glimpse instead of opening your email or googling weather. You don't even need to use it if you really hate it that much, you could just place the icons on desktop or install a classic start menu. And I love that you can log in to a MS account and it will sync all your icons and computer settings so you could log into a seperate computer and it'll all be there.. See the bottom left: desktop. Click it and you get the desktop we all know and love. The hate bandwagon stems from the misconception that the new start menu replaces the desktop, but it doesn't. It replaces the start menu. It only replaces it on the ARM versions aka ones that would be for tablets/phones or weak netbooks and you can't even install regular windows programs on ARM systems so the desktop isn't even needed on ARM systems.
I'll probably get windows 8 when it's got more support from progams I use
I'll probably get windows 8 when it's got more support from progams I use
um... it already runs everything windows 7 runs.
I'll probably get windows 8 when it's got more support from progams I use
I haven't had a single compatibility issue with things that run on windows 7.
wait so am I doing this right? you go here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/feature-packs enter your email wait for the key and the key can be used to activate a full windows 8 install?
um... it already runs everything windows 7 runs.
I heard FL Studio 10 and Ableton Live experience issues on Windows 8
FL Studio runs fine The only thing I've had a problem with is Max Payne 3, but that's more Rockstar's fault than anything
I don't really want to wait 24 hours, does anyone have an extra key still?
so in order for this to work, you have to wait for one of those fake activation servers to come online, get a temp activation, then use this key?
Where exactly do you enter the key after you get it?
Want to switch but to lazy to sort through my HDD and backup all important documents. I really need a clean install though :/ Never used the start-menu anyway. Launchy 4 life, fool!
I'd say Win8 is worth what it costs at a discount, but I wouldn't use it on my desktop anymore.
Want to switch but to lazy to sort through my HDD and backup all important documents. I really need a clean install though :/ Never used the start-menu anyway. Launchy 4 life, fool!
WinKey -> type the program.
I could exactly tell which way was this thread going to go. just look at my crystal fucking balls. fondle them if you want, sharing is caring
Sticking with XP
WinKey -> type the program.
Launchy returns focus to the active window if you close it, it's faster, and just smoother in general. Although the start menu does have the advantage of opening folders as well.
Dunno why you would pirate W8, it's only 50 bucks, really cheap for what it is, a whole operating system for the price of a game. It just seems like too much of a hassle to pirate it anyway, i'd rather pay the cash and just know it's going to work properly with no activation issues.
I bought the upgrade edition for £40, and to be honest from booting into it, it looks like a run-of-the-mill install, not just an upgrade.
I like windows 8 after moving over from windows XP, that was a much needed upgrade for me.
FL Studio runs fine The only thing I've had a problem with is Max Payne 3, but that's more Rockstar's fault than anything
Can't get LA Noire to work either. Rockstar makes some great games, but honestly they can't do anything right on the PC.
Anybody want my spare Media Center upgrade? It's rather useful, and beats buying it. [sp]Media Center Upgrade Key: 7769W-JK3YY-KVYWN-CMP4Q-QRPM3[/sp] [sub][sub][sub]***I am not responsible for how this key is used.[/sub][/sub][/sub] This is amusing, I wonder how this happened. I'm curious as to if Microsoft will be able to unactivate Windows that were activated this way.
I'd rather keep 7 on a desktop.
this mentality needs to die, 8 is better on the desktop than 7 is. You don't need to like everything about 8, but saying it is bad on the desktop because of a fullscreen start menu is silly [editline]21st November 2012[/editline] not saying you need to upgrade, but it's no different than any other normal Windows upgrade (I define "normal" Windows upgrades as not Windows ME or Vista launch)
Does this work on MSDNAA version of Windows 8?
