Welp, us Rhode Islanders are back to only being known for coffee milk and Family Guy *tears up*
Also HP Lovecraft [editline]24th May 2012[/editline]
Yeah didn't they go insanely into debt to make Amalur
They were also working on a MMORPG called Copernicus.
Kingdom of Amalur was a terribly risky and honestly bad decision for a first game for a company, even if they had masterminds and people from other great companies. Making an extremly high budget game is not a good first game and even though they marketed the shit out of it with the help of EA it didn't nearly sell enough, even though it sold quite decently. I really think that when a game studio makes a debut game they should keep the budget low and the marketing low because first of all it's less risky and it's a better way to show off how good a studio is at making games.
That's pretty unfortunate because I really enjoyed Kingdoms of Amalur.
Good underrated companies that make great games are forced to shut down. (Both Rise of Nations and Reckoning were great games) While 1-year rehashes are at the top of the charts in today's gaming industry. Fuck this shit.
I'm so sad to hear this. Hope someone will buy the IP and continue making games in the Amalur setting. Some good news: other studios are advertising jobs for former 38 Studios and Big Huge Games employees.
I think the worst thing about this is that Curt Schillings is a conservative pro-tea party blowhard who screeches about socialist democrats. That's bullshit. Good devs are shutting down while faggots from Activision making billions on Call of Duty. Oh, the good ol' Rise of Nations: Thrones of Patriots, I will play again, just like in 2007.
Reckoning was sorta average. if bhg hadn't been bought out perhaps it would have been better.
the gameplay itself was really great in my opinion, it just had NO character to it at all. all characters were bland and emotionless
I'm fairly certain that big huge games had to leg it because of the huge EA boycott on amalur
It's like that one time we shut down a game company.
Kingdoms of Amalur wasn't very good

Sucks for the developers who work on the game but I have no sympathy for Kurt Schilling.
My friend works there, looks like he's out of a job...
rise of nations was ok, liked the game but wish there was more improvements towards it. Kingdom of Amalur got boring pretty fast to me, and hardly got even far in the game. The game just feels repetitive as hell and the combat really does not appeal to me very much.
Kingdoms of Amalur wasn't very good
It wasn't bad either. It was a decent game. It was crazy to expect it to break even, when they knew they went over the budget with it, and it was even crazier to expect it to fund a MMORPG.
It wasn't their first game though.
I guess I'm ignorant then, which games have they made?
Welp, us Rhode Islanders are back to only being known for coffee milk and Family Guy *tears up*
What about those iced teas?
How the hell did they blow 50 million dollar loan they got... Bloody Idiots.
