I still have a number of people on MSN, several of which I can only contact in one other place, and they aren't always online there, but are almost always online on MSN.
I'm not very happy with this. I still use Messenger daily. Skype's offline message system is extremely poor. I regularly receive messages late - once received one 3 weeks late.
MS has reworked Skype to move away from its p2p system and use WLM's backbone for IM and Voip, so it has greatly improved.
All the cool kats have moved to XMPP.
Although I don't use live messenger, I still have it running so that I get notified of emails to my hotmail account. Anyone able to recommend a program that'll let me access my hotmail through it, so that I'll know when I get an email without having to go to the live inbox site?
Skype takes a shit on my background CPU usage and is generally a nasty piece of software even more so than MSN. Plus I conduct a lot of business through MSN (yes I realise how unprofessional this sounds). This is bad news.
Man... MSN was good times. It eventually got replaced by Steam and Facebook chat... The fun with smilies was funsies.
Skype is such a cluster fuck when it comes to like conversations and such. To this day it still kinda confuses me and is stupid. Maybe that's just me though. I still like Skype and use it regularly for gaming outside of communities. MSN had some goood memories.
the skype smileys are fucking retarded
the image sharing in wlm was one of the best ways to quickly share pictures with someone.
That's always been a piece of shit for me and my friends. Images from my clipboard would not send until minutes later and there's no transparency support.
I will miss MSN. I remember when it was called "Windows Messanger". Good times. Brings me back to the early 2000s.
And I'm here using Google Talk.
RIP messenger I remember being a young dumb kid having e-relationships through it oh how I regret such days
After a while my old MSN account was flooded with requests from spam bots and malware :v: Will not be missed. I do like hotmail though, my parents at first thought it was some porn thing V:v:V
Man, I haven't used Messenger in years. I remember back in the day when the extension thing for Messenger existed, had all kinds of cool shit on it. The rate-limit on the stupid shaking alert thing was client-side, specifically on the senders side, and you could remove it. I really managed to piss off some people with it.
The hell does everyone use now then? Skypes so ugly now, theres no insta-picture or voice clip sharing, offline messages get delayed. Dammit.
The hell does everyone use now then? Skypes so ugly now, theres no insta-picture or voice clip sharing, offline messages get delayed. Dammit.
There's no such thing as offline messages in skype, messages are transferred as soon as you are both connected.
Honestly facebook and skype completely removed any purpose to MSN, it was great in the day but I use those 2 services everyday and it works perfectly tho i really hate skypes offline messenging system its fucking horrible, hopefully msn extends some of the msn charm into Skype
Skypes offline messaging is actually better than MSN's, msn has a weird problem where messages get delayed hours or even longer sometimes, seemingly randomly. Also Skype has much better support for multiple logons. [editline]10th January 2013[/editline]
There's no such thing as offline messages in skype, messages are transferred as soon as you are both connected.
Don't think this is true at all. I've sent messages to someone offline on my laptop, then sign out and sign in on my PC and the message is still there in our conversation window, waiting to be sent.
I use skype to keep in touch with people a lot, 90% of the time it's fine but those few situations where you don't get a message until like 1-2 days later can potentially be a huge problem. Most of the time it's just pointless shit though.
i remember back in like 2006/7 when you could send stuff that you've print screened over msn. rip in pieces, you had a good run
also I really hope microsoft gets rid of the stupid "group calling webcam is only available for customers who subscribe"
I'm NOT okay with this. In fact, I fucking hate it. My girlfriend lives in England, so we only get to meet once in a blue moon. Her university does something to Skype (similar to how my school blocks the Steam servers), and a video chat doesn't last longer than about 5 minutes before the call crashes, and her internet gives up for about 2 hours. So we use MSN instead so we can talk over video chat, because that seemingly works where Skype doesn't. So great. What now.
MSN has pretty kickass picture sharing though, you can literally draw something in paint, lasso it and ctrl+v it in the chat box and it shows up in pic share Skype can't pic share for shit
I still keep my MSN signed in all the time even thought i only have like 2 friends who still use it and i could easily chat to them on steam or facebook RIP
I used MSN before skype. it was pretty great talking to friends.. Yeah, good times.
My friends pretty much quit using msn. Out of the about 250 contacts that was added to skype, two of them are online. Haven't used the thing since 2006, still sad though.
I remember waaay back when I was back in 2nd grade. Voicechatting with my brother while both of us were playing Runescape. Good times. I thought 6 years would have moved slower. MSN was fucking awesome, Skype is far better now though. I wish I was 9 again, I could do so much shit without getting in trouble.

fuck gay skype i'll use WLM until march then i'll pull a lateral move and switch to trillian
I haven't used MSN in fucking years The internet nostalgia is coming back with all the things you guys mention Those dumbass winks and drawing cocks in the handwriting area RIP MSN
