• Japan's New Goateed Geminoid Robot Is Uncomfortably Realistic
I don't see the uncanny valley you guys are talking about, he could pass for a human if he didn't blink as much.
The main problem most humanoid robots have (and I'm quoting The Bicentennial Man here) is that they lack "imperfections." A robot that is meant to emulate a human too often has perfectly smooth skin with an even tone, perfect hair and unusually bright eyes.

I'd be so goddamn freaked out of my mind if I woke up with that thing standing in my room. :gonk:
This one wasn't made in Japan

We came at length to the house, which was indeed a noble structure, built according to the best rules of ancient architecture. The fountains, gardens, walks, avenues, and groves were all disposed with exact judgment and taste. I gave due praises to every thing I saw, whereof his Excellency took not the least notice till after supper, when, there being no third companion, he told me with a very melancholy air that he doubted he must thrown down his houses in town and country, to rebuild them after the present mode, destroy all his plantations, and cast others into such a form as modern usage required, and give the same directions to all his tenants, unless he would submit to incur the censure of pride, singularity, affectation, ignorance, caprice, and perhaps increase his Majesty's displeasure. I really flinched backwards in my chair when the face suddenly, without warning had that uncanny smile slapped onto it.
Will this technology ever have any form of use other than sex robots?
Looks a little more real in this video, I guess since it's not right up in its 'face'. Creeped me the fuck out the first time I saw it.
At first glance it looked like Keanu Reeves in twenty years.
I shat myself at 0:17
FINALLY! Blinking looks more natural. Usually it's the blinking that INSTANTLY gives away that it's a robot, no matter how realistic it looks.

Creeped me the fuck out the first time I saw it.
I don't know why, but in both videos the robot looks kinda sad. Also when he blinks, he flexes his eyebrows way too much
Thats not too bad. I mean, at first glance it looks like a human. There is something unsettling, but to me his happy face makes me happy too. I don't spend enough time with realy humans.
The eyes and the lips don't really look that good. It's still pretty damn creepy :geno:
Snatchers? :raise: It's pretty impressive, though, if they would fix the eyes it'd be less un-canny valley and more like "holy shit it's not human?"
In 30 years time we'll look back on these threads and cringe at how we were so prejudiced against robots :colbert:
Japanese Robot makes Japanese Expressions.
That one's deeeeep down in the uncanny valley.
Now in avatar form!
doesn't look that realistic, can easily tell its a robot
Right now you can. God Help Us All.
A male robot dick wouldn't be hard to make
They have those already, they're called dildos.
Damn, this looks fairly believable. They just need to get the animations down and make it walk smoothly and it could probably pass itself off for a real person. Until it tries to talk, anyway. :v: But we are slowly getting there in terms of synthetic voice. I'm sure we'll have walking talking human-looking androids some day in the future. But it seems like that day is pretty fast approaching...
Well this isn't scary as fuck or anything
I'd prefer a Bender-like robot.
Ah yes, one step towards my own sexbot forever alone
I think this is actually a step out of the uncanny valley. Still slightly off at times, but some of those expressions were dead on.
what the fuck is the uncanny valley?

Creeped me the fuck out the first time I saw it.
The robot acted almost like a severely retarded adult. Edit: Uncanny valley makes me think of tits, don't know why.
