Basically when something is so realistic that the slightest imperfection ruins the illusion, making the overall effect less realistic than something that started off less realistic.

Looks like :haw:
To the people saying they could tell if it was a robot: Would you really be able to tell if it was walking down the street or if you passed it in a crowd or if you were more than 1 foot away as seen in the video?
Creepy man.
It's lacking facial muscles. When you blink your eyes some cheek muscles move to, especially when you smile. Not to mention eyebrow movement and the fact that your scalp and hair moves with it. It's like these development teams need someone to constantly remind them of key things while they are trying to make something "Realistic".

FUUUUUCK. Damnit, I wanted to do that :saddowns:
Yeah, I think the biggest problem with this is it's software, it seems to jerky and doesn't have the same muscle groups as a human face.
Not 100% convincing but damn close. Needs more muscles and emotive movements as mentioned. Now let's see some actual convincing AI.
It's all Tech-Heresy of course, but it's cool.
Hello uncanny valley, its so nice to see you, please take a seat and we can have some tea!
Why did they have to make it look like a stoner?

Well it's modeled off a Danish guy :buddy:
Jesus christ, uncanny valley material right here!
Seriously, this is just beyond awesome and more scary.

I remember that being one of the criticism on spirits within when it was released. People were unsettled by the lack of imperfections on the CGI characters.
As this one goes, those eyes are scary as lifeless as they are.

Or to put it slightly simpler:
The closer something comes to perfection, the more glaring the flaws become.
Yay, we are giving birth to our benefactors :buddy:

nope.avi
I think one of the problems is the eyes aren't moving enough. When a person looks at something, their eyes never stay perfectly still, they dart around in minuscule movements. That's something a lot of professional 3D animators have picked up on, especially in movies-watch the eyes of the characters carefully next time you watch a Pixar movie, you'll notice it.
Japan: Plunging headfirst into the Uncanny Valley.

This seriously creeps me out. The best part is, I can't think of a single practical application for this kind of thing. Maybe it's just me, but...I dunno.
Am I the only one who laughed throughout the entire video in the OP?
