I've also noticed that its pretty much just become a smear campaign against the opponents, and not just in the national elections. During some of the elections in Massachusetts it was just shit throwing. The only statement about what they'd do is "That they would do better than the other candidate." I can't remember which party used attack ads more but I remember very few campaign ads.
